I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Part time work available, staff discount, nice colleague environment, an opportunity to transfer between stores for university holidays

    Cons

Not flexible, at times you're expected to do more than you can in a given time frame

    Advice to Management

I'd keep a closer eye on who actually does the work, I ended up working shifts with different people and some of them hid at the back or the canteen.

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Minimal pros.
    Induction was slightly helpful.

    Cons

    Awful Management.
    Rude and appalling staff members.
No training / Left alone during first shift in high risk department.
No respect or support from fellow team members.
Received no "Buddy" to help, although this was promised.

    Advice to Management

Staff should be trained to be polite and friendly towards other members, not rude or insulting. In high risk departments being left alone is not what I expected at all. Manager didn't seem interested in providing help, was expected to know certain things. I filed a complaint towards my store, so far nothing. The management haven't bothered to get back to me either. I was looking forward to beginning a career in Sainsbury's however, working with ignorant and horrible people is nothing you, nor I should go through. Although this is a personal experience, this ruins jobs.

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Relatively laid-back atmosphere
    Good training programs
    Camaraderie encouraged between colleagues
Management don't talk down to colleagues

    Cons

Hours are getting trimmed everywhere and outgoing staff not getting replaced.
Bit mean with the discount scheme.
    Restrictive with contracted hours.

    Advice to Management

Keep staff discount at 15-20% (most staff I know still shop elsewhere at 10%)
Its becoming difficult to keep to our high standards with such low staff numbers.

I have been working at J Sainsbury full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible with shifts; Allows career progression; Good for if you want a part time job; 10% discount

    Cons

There has been a sharp and significant drop in allocated hours for each department resulting in staff who leave not being replaced and so the amount of staff available for day to day running of each department is very very thin on the ground resulting in daily work becoming very stressful and there is a strong feeling of lack of appreciation.

    Pros

team work, good management, benefits, friendly, cold almost everywhere, Sainsbury's is a very nice pace to work with amazing colleagues. The administration was very helpful and Sainsbury's offer a nice life and work balance

    Cons

Overall very enjoyable, i was able to work well with the team and quickly learnt where everything in my department was kept. With help from my colleges it became very easy for me to help customers to find what they where looking for.

    Advice to Management

It's an alright place to work at with good pay, benefits and flexible hours. the management is well handled and they value all of their staff equally

    Pros

Set shifts and decent pay makes it a great job to work along side uni, but there are also good opportunities for those who want to climb the ladder.

    Cons

    Overtime is not always guaranteed

    Advice to Management

Extend the overtime budget instead of over-hiring

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent hourly pay to say what the job entails. Not a bad working environment friendly staff and management. Good job if wanting something part time whilst having other commitments, management were very accommodating to me whilst studying at uni, they allowed me to have days off for studying etc

    Cons

Customers are rude, but can only expect from any customer service environment. Not really much of else to say about cons
