I have been working at J Sainsbury full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Potential chance to progress upwards or sideways
10% discount in Sainsbury's and Argos and 25% discount in Habitat after 3 months
    Good company values

    Cons

Sainsbury's is currently going through a lot of change and it all feels chaotic and without direction.
Feels as if the companys cares more about focusing on customers than the actual employees.
Training is highly unorganised and messy.

I worked at J Sainsbury full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Reasonably good work-life balance, pay was good and generally a feel good factor in most stores. Good holiday entitlement, sick pay and a great bonus to work towards.

    Cons

The food retail industry is dog eat dog which piles pressure on everyone. Was made to feel like we were saving lives, at times, when really all we were doing was putting beans on a shelf.

    Advice to Management

I understand the need to remain focused but this needs to be kept in perspective

I worked at J Sainsbury full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall and generally the company is very good but not the bad store/deputy managers.

    Cons

You work mostly like a colleague with long unsociable hours including weekends and bank holidays. London regional 8 worst area in the company to work for. They lack respect to each other and very quick to give out disciplinary without understanding first the real issue or problem. Its the blame game with no accountability.

    Advice to Management

All senior, store and deputy managers stop being aggressive to departments managers.

    Pros

There is advancement opportunities available but woe betide you if you put insignificant things like a pregnant spouse first.

    Cons

The management are all that is wrong with retail. Care more about H.O. than the customers.

I worked at J Sainsbury full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I really wanted to join the Sainsbury's family, I loved the 20x20 vision and they have some truly fantastic colleagues.

    Cons

The senior management team is very poor. The Department Managers are in really low and there is no real training. I remember last year in my previous store at Chesham when we had to do the fireworks training for bonfire, it was a copy exercise from the answer sheet that even the fire brigade noticed. I witnessed unfair dismissal and even people pushed to resign to avoid paying redundancy. I witnessed abuse which have been reported but no actions have been taken... The list can be very long... OF COURSE THIS DOES NOT APPLY ONTO THE WHOLE COMPANY. Only what I unfortunately experienced on CO6.

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately, you have to be really careful of everything you are saying and to who you are talking. It's a really competitive place to work but in the wrong way. The competition is on who will keep his job instead of important KPI.
