I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hours worked around kids and you get an extra premium for working nights.

    Cons

You really are just a number and nobody cares if you are unhappy and want to leave as they will just employ someone else.

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Left to get on with my job not hassled by managers. No customers to get in the way. More relaxed than being on day shift.

    Cons

Always being asked to do over time if you do it once they will keep expecting you to do more.

I have been working at J Sainsbury full-time

    Pros

Lower management can be understanding and will try to balance needs of company vs employees

    Cons

Getting worse really really fast.major layoofs mainly on hr and back office, even managers don't obey rules, many rules are irrational, upper management doesn't have a grip to reality, many demotivating moves, will reduce time of breaks after Christmas, makes u feel demotivated

    Advice to Management

You break every established law of human resource management .you demotivated your people and you see only budget numbers and how to cut down costs.but you are a company that relies on local comsumers in every place and when you make a lot of people unhappy,it will come back to bite you

    2. Can be pretty physically hard
    3. Very repetitive and monotonous

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Instead of 5, 8 hour shifts you work 4, 10 hour shifts

    Cons

Being at night it is quite tiring and hard physical labour

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fair wages with annual pay review
    Opportunity to progress
    Company discount

    Cons

HR hard to get hold of
    Messed around with annual holiday
Not enough staff to do the job, putting pressure on everyone
Conflicting information about standards of practice, one manager telling you this and another telling you that which is confusing and frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Not only listen to the staff but ACT on what they say instead of giving them lip service. There is no point asking staff to give feedback if nothing is ever changed.

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good team environment, staff very friendly and willing to help each other once their own stock was out. Generally an OK place to work.

    Cons

Staff discount did not apply until after 6 months of employment. Little scope to rotate what aisle you work on so can be incredibly monotonous.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the time for staff discount to apply. Give staff chance to learn stock on a different aisle in order to allow occasional rotation- would be particularly useful to have a swap between heavy/light aisles (e.g. canned goods vs crisps).

I have been working at J Sainsbury full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Colleagues are mostly friendly, pay could be worse. And to be honest there aren't any more pros. It is dreadful.

    Cons

Management are only caring for profits and have little care about how hard people actually work.

The company itself has a dreadful policy when it comes to colleagues, often cutting hours and forcing those on a lower wage into working too hard.

One of the worst companies to work for. Very regressive and only looks to protect profits rather than grow as a business, short sighted and lack ambition.

    Advice to Management

Sort your policies out and treat employees better than the rubbish you currently treat them. Also, actually pay a living wage and actually bring the company into the 21st century.

I worked at J Sainsbury full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay for night shift work and management basically left you alone to work on your aisles and did not bother you too much.

    Cons

Poorly run, inappropriate use of different peoples skill sets. Did not give enough time to reasonably complete tasks. Working on fresh sections without warm uniform

    Advice to Management

Utilise skill sets better so people are placed in the appropriate role so more work can be done quickly and efficiently instead of trying to learn a new store section every night.
