I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay rise at the end of the year (usually 4% or more), decent wage for young people, good experience and offers discounted shares for colleagues, discount card allows for 10% off in Sainsburys, Argos and Habitat (increases to 15-20% for events such as Christmas) overtime is abundant throughout departments allowing you to be trained on different departments.

    Cons

Often restricted when it comes to using your initiative for less senior colleagues, nepotism can sometimes be seen, meaning family members of management are more likely to get better opportunities.

I worked at J Sainsbury (More than a year)

    Pros

can listen to headphones during night shift, easy job

    Cons

Men are forced to work on heavy aisles because they are viewed as 'stronger' - highly unfair.
Managers treat their favourites with privileges - don't moan at them when they go awol chatting for 25 mins etc etc.
Holidays NEVER approved despite months of notice.

    Advice to Management

Sort your holiday policy out - most people will just not turn up anyway so you may as well give them the holiday rather than causing drama.

    Pros

Left to get on with my job not hassled by managers. No customers to get in the way. More relaxed than being on day shift.

    Cons

Always being asked to do over time if you do it once they will keep expecting you to do more.
