I have been working at J Sainsbury (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flexible hours. Good people.

    Cons

Boring. Lack of growth to progess in the company. Never appreciated for the work you do.

    Advice to Management

There are lots of collegues who supervise who haven't been signed off or encouraged to sign off by mamgers even though they are good at what they do and there for end up supervising for many years without getting paid the wage they should get for supervising. You should recognise this and encourage those who supervise who are not signed off, to get signed off instead of letting them do a job for many years paying them a band 2 when really they should be getting paid a band 3 so you can save money. No encouragement from mangers to progress within the company.

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time

    Pros

Worked in a local store so close community of workers
Experience many different parts of the role from bakery to till
Opportunities to work higher, even at head office

    Cons

    Many times understaffed
Don't say too much of your private business or comment on others, people can take things very personal and out of hand.

I worked at J Sainsbury full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked in the head office. The hours were good, surrounded by friendly people and with focus on personal development.

    Cons

It was a giant corporate bureaucracy and no one took pride in the fruits of their labour.

    Advice to Management

    Allocate money more efficiently.

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Early start - starting at 4am and finishing at 8am, you don’t have to deal with customers and get to have the full day to yourself

Progression - always get offers to be trained on other departments so more overtime opportunities available

Overtime - usually, there is a fair amount of overtime on the online department

    Cons

Early start - starting work 4am can be a struggle some days, especially after a rough nights sleep

Overtime - during periods where there’s not much work (eg summer holidays) where the kids are at school and there’s no students, you’ll be getting a flat wage of around £600

Management - could just be my experience, but managers from other department seem to have a hatred towards online shoppers, always finding something to complain about

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy, Flexible and great for a part-time job if you are at University.

    Cons

Unreliable staff and lack of organisation

    Advice to Management

    Needs better organising

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, lots of over time
    Friendly Staff

    Cons

Pressure to work extra hours out of contract, and a bit iffy if unable to do so - kinda understandable in a way
No benefits as temp only, although a couple do get kept on.

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun, good team work, opportunities to progress upwards to team leader positions, good work environment and high morale amongst colleagues

    Cons

Can be unorganized with schedules and holiday entitlement, quite strict on uniform and cannot have painted nails or hair down even if working with packaged food

    Advice to Management

could be more organised when it comes to having schedules up, as well as being able to view them online like we were informed we were going to be able to do and this has not happened yet

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible; worked for the company during university and was able to transfer back and forth between different stores to maximise working time.

Mostly good management, with good motivators and managers who understood staff needs.

Can be a positive working environment which was assisted massively by good management.

    Cons

Some management failed to communicate effectively with staff, which could lead to a negative working environment, and additionally led to scheduling problems.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more direct staff feedback rather than a long, strenuous online feedback form.

I worked at J Sainsbury full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Discounts. Regular salary reviews (annually) Bonus scheme.
Do job go home and forget about work (sad but true)
A valuable place for students and those needing work in between more fulfilling roles.

    Cons

Loosing direction in the marketplace due to confused strategy to compete against discounters (Aldi,Lidl)

Big chain (J.S, Tesco,ASDA, Morrison) fighting for the same market and no differentiation. One will loose some day.
Waitrose and M&S seem to have defined their territory.

Removal of night shifts which completed store restocking to replace that with early late shifts which purports to be for customers “better availability”

17 % pay cuts as consequence of above for those moving from nights to days for shift colleagues.

Unless you want to remain store based then facing working in London support is probably your only other option.

Company does not seem to scrutinise its work force for talent it could benefit from.

    Advice to Management

Realise that the executive became complacent about the arrival of the German discounters and are now in a corner wondering how to recover.
The executive are paid to define strategy and preempt signs of competition before it damages sales not after.

It is the store colleagues that are the face of the company so think hard about how you motivate them without the current parental patronising approach.
