I have been working at J Sainsbury full-time

    Pros

Decent pay, which increases most years.
Opportunities to progress and learn more roles if you wish.
Discount across the group, now including Argos and Habitat.

    Cons

Poor communication from managers, and generally poor management.
Lack of staff, including taking too long to recruit new staff meaning existing have to work twice as hard making the job harder and people getting stressed.
Sometimes no thanks for the hard work you do, even though you come in at short notice.
I trained to be a manager, and before being signed off I stepped down as poor support from store manager.

    Advice to Management

Don't leave store managers in one store for too long as they start to become too complacent, previous manager communicated with staff better.

Start recruitment process as soon as someone hands their notice in instead of leaving it late.

Take care of your staff and they will be happy in their job, rather than not enjoying their job.

    Pros

Good pay rise at the end of the year (usually 4% or more), decent wage for young people, good experience and offers discounted shares for colleagues, discount card allows for 10% off in Sainsburys, Argos and Habitat (increases to 15-20% for events such as Christmas) overtime is abundant throughout departments allowing you to be trained on different departments.

    Cons

Often restricted when it comes to using your initiative for less senior colleagues, nepotism can sometimes be seen, meaning family members of management are more likely to get better opportunities.
