I have been working at JR Simplot full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great family friendly environment. Co-workers are typically hard working, easy to get along with, and helpful. New work environment is open, warm and welcoming. A lot of different types of work spaces from living room set ups to plug and play conference room spaces both large and small. Both indoor and outdoor options. Competitive salary and benefit packages.

    Cons

There are pockets of managers in areas of the company that need training on Company values and management skill training as these managers make a great Company and a great place to work difficult and stressful for needless reasons.

    Advice to Management

Get more engaged with the human aspect of the workplace to ensure people have the skills and support they need to not only advance, but job change as well if desired. There are a lot of companies that offer mandatory training hours to help develop the skills their employees need to be successful in their current jobs, as well as, help them gain the new skills they need to move into the next level. Other companies also offer peer to peer training via Skye Conferences and then record the sessions for access by others as well.

    Pros

Huge opportunities to advance.Pay rate to cost of living ratio is enormous.Great management teams.Floor folks have huge opportunities to make 60,000 to 70,000 a year with overtime.Keep your nose clean and you can literally retire with this company.

    Cons

Would really like to see the project in Argentina stay in the states.

    Advice to Management

Stay true to JR’s core buisness beliefs.

I worked at JR Simplot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some really great, intelligent people work at Simplot. Lots of drive and initiative.

    Cons

Poor management drives away hard-working and talented individuals. Used to be a culture where input and innovation was appreciated. Recent restructuring led to management turning a deaf ear to front line employees and little to no regard for work load.

    Advice to Management

Managers and leadership need to actually manage and lead, even during a restructure. In fact, that's when leadership is needed more than ever.

There is a lot of preaching about valuing and retaining top talent. It's time to make that more than words.

I worked at JR Simplot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are some good people who work for this company. Boise is a nice place.

    Cons

Extremely incompetent and dishonest middle management. I was treated poorly by both management and HR. There is a corporate culture that exists in this company that serves both to protect entrenched employees and mistreat new ones. Advancement is more of a popularity contest than a meritocracy. While I was there I saw at least two unqualified people get hired due to their family connections.

    Advice to Management

Morals matter! Start with being honest, and build from there.

I have been working at JR Simplot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very conscious of family values from the top down

    Cons

Very progressive and jump into things too soon sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Keep looking at the future, but plan on being there instead of always leading there. The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese

I worked at JR Simplot full-time

    Pros

Has potential to be amazing and there are pockets of success and integrity

    Cons

Depending on area of the company, ethics may be questionable. They are more concerned with a profit than producing accurate data and results. Management doesn't follow through on career opportunities and hires and lays off without thinking of impact on the individual.

    Advice to Management

Management needs better training. They lack maturity to make good business decisions. Also recommend they take a business ethics course.
