    I have been working at John Lewis & Partners full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    As part of the John Lewis Partnership you can enjoy all the benefits of being a Co Owner of the business. Working in one of the Partnerships 5 Hotels, open to employees of John Lewis & Waitrose, you get the satisfaction of providing a great leisure benefit for Partners whilst working at a beautiful country club set in 120 acres, on the river.

    Cons

    As with any hotel, working at The Odney club can be hard work. In front of house areas, you spend many hours on your feet. In housekeeping, the work is physically demanding and many departments require you to work a mixture of early mornings and evenings, not to mention weekends. That said, if you love providing great customer service and pride yourself in delivering a total guest experience which exceeds the marketplace, the Pro's outweigh the Cons.

    Advice to Management

    Shout about what a great place to work The Odney Club is.

    I have been working at John Lewis & Partners full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Employees treated with respect, application process simple and straight forward. Working hours good for retail.

    Cons

    Role repetitive (it is retail). Management seldom on salesfloor. Culture of assuming all employees will act like adults means some allowed to get away with murder.

    Advice to Management

    Get out of the offices and see what's happening on the salesfloor.

    I have been working at John Lewis & Partners full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * The benefits of working for the Partnership are unparalleled, and really allow you to lead a great quality of life. Activities that are usually expensive - days out, theatre tickets, etc - are either free or heavily subsidised.

    * If you value being part of a company instead of answering to external stakeholders, it is well worth looking to become part of the Partnership.

    * Discount.

    * Almost every team I have worked with is made up of genuine people who like the work they do. Although I would say this attitude has waned over the years.

    Cons

    * The pay could be higher.

    * Bonus has shrunk significantly.

    * Within visual merchandising there isn't really anywhere to go - you're either in the team or you're the manager, and there are no levels for promotion. So in terms of careers prospects, things will get stale quickly.

    I worked at John Lewis & Partners part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good benefits package if you take advantage. Management gives good opportunities to develop confidence & skills. Overtime was usually available. Free lunch and snack for catering employees. Good discounts.

    Cons

    Working hours not flexible. Sometimes understaffed. Boots paid better. The dress code for retail staff is very conservative, but that's to be expected.

    Advice to Management

    I don't really have much to say here. Keep on top of the organisation and have a better system for holiday requests than when I was there, but that might have changed.
