      Pros

      1. Everyone wants the business to succeed 2. Flexible working is encouraged 3. Benefits package is something I’ve never seen anywhere else, it includes use of Partnership hotels, a box at the O2 and discounts at a range of restaurant chains (as three examples).

      Cons

      1. No career progression at all 2. Very hierarchical, people are referred to by role level rather than as a person sometimes. 3. Outdate systems.

Could be worse but I wouldn't recommend.

      Pros

You can work at your own pace.

      Cons

Poor pay compared to other big name retailers, e.g. M&S, Sainsbury's etc. Favouritism. Poor management - managers are clueless & often you will be left to manage seasonal workers yourself. No career progression. Very us & them culture between management & staff. Poor teamwork. Shopfloor staff treat operations like they are cretins. Upper management are clueless. No training. You will be dropped in at the deep end. Processes to follow are broken. You will find yourself trying to get work done and then hit a dead end. Management at all levels aren't interested in fixing these problems and you will be in trouble for not making a broken process work. Systems are old & faulty. Holidays are very hard to book. Convoluted system and you will lose some of your holidays no matter what. Toxic work culture. Everyone is miserable and it is hard to have a positive outlook when everyone else is unhappy.

      Didsbury Contact Centre

      Pros

Really good benefits for staff including subsidized meals and leisure benefits. Nice offices to work in. Nice people. Friendly environment, managers are happy to help and offer advice (though some clearly shouldn't be managers)

      Cons

As a frontline customer service partner taking inbound calls, the workload could at times be intense but manageable. The training is pretty poor though and you really learn the job once you're out on the floor doing it. I left the company due to there being a large amount of change in how the contact centre operated, and the role I was trained for became outsourced and my role was changed to more of an admin role in Core Home Services. This would have been fine except the training given was diabolical and consisted of two poorly planned powerpoint presentations with no practical training given whatsoever. The management can sometimes seem quite inept, with some being in positions of power due to nepotism and favoritism. Opportunities for career progression were only available to those who worked there full-time. As a part-time partner, it often felt as though my contribution didn't matter, like..the managers would say "oh thank you all your help today" as if I'd been some temp drafted in despite the fact that I worked plenty of hours there in addition to another full-time job.

      John Lewis & Partners Response

      Development Manager, Resourcing

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience of working for John Lewis & Partners. I am sorry to see your no longer a Partner with us, the retail industry is undergoing significant change at the moment and we are not excluded from this, our teams in our call centres do a wonderful role in supporting both our customers and Partners - so I'm sorry to see that the changes you mentioned meant the job was no longer something you wanted to do. There has been a full review from end to end within the Core Home Services offering, but I will ensure they are aware about your comments regarding training should this not have already been picked up. Thanks for highlighting all the great reasons Partners choose to work for the John Lewis Partnership though, I hope you got the chance to make the most of the benefits on offer, also that the teams were really supportive. I hope you have found an equally enjoyable role now.
