      Good job

20 Dec 2019 - Laboratory Technician in Cambridge, East of England, England, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good pay for the skills required, mostly due to shift allowance. Meals paid for. Management easy to get on with. Job is not difficult.

      Cons

Unhealthy shift work leaves you jet lagged at all times and can make work/life balance difficult. Half of the workforce is on 3-month “rolling contracts”, even after working there for more than a year, and do not have the same rights and bonuses as permanent employees. Virtually no career progression without moving to a different department.

Generally good company to work for but career progression is slow and limited

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Interesting engineering/science, friendly and relaxed working environment. Good bonus scheme, pensions and shares. A global company that has the potential to give exciting career.

      Cons

Huge under-investment around certain parts of the business has lead to some departments massively under-resourced for the work they need to do. Pay is low considering the hazards and risks. Career progression too dependent upon whether you were on the graduate scheme or have a senior manager backing you. The career planning is very poor.

      Pros

Training opportunities do exist if you're lucky with your manager, collaboration encouraged (f not always acted on) Good pension (until they change it!)

      Cons

Constant change Low pay Very poor management - no decision makers/leaders Whoever speaks loudest is listened to most, even if they talk nonsense Terrible HR No one can make a decision If something seems like a good idea, everyone gets involved and drags the progress down until it becomes another failure Sales constantly agree to ridiculous targets that overload the rest of the team Sales never listen to advice, upset employees and customers Some of the worst facilities I've ever seen No career progression
