I worked at Kearney full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Bright colleagues but more personable than at McK. Global company with a good reputation (Solid tier 2 firm), High variety of work, Work with intellectually stimulating colleagues. I'm referring to consulting jobs. Not as rigid an up or out culture as at other firm.

    Cons

Long hours which is okay when your young but gets increasingly hard when you get older. Coming out the office at 10pm on a fairly common basis is not fun, especially as the intensity is high - when you see guys leaving restaurants from hedge funds earning multiples of what you earn. The promotions can be slower than at McK / BCG.

    Advice to Management

Give people a few days off when on a particularly intense project. Build up the quantitative and asset based skills fast as this is where the consulting industry is going.

I have been working at Kearney

    Pros

High salaries and excellent benefits package. Hard working staff. International mixing pot. Global reach.

    Cons

Very long hours and ruthless management culture. Many junior/mid-ranking staff lack genuine expertise, think they are better than they really are and in truth are bluffing it.

    Advice to Management

Need to make better use of genuine SMEs to solve problems they have seen before, rather than lean on junior staff straight out of MBA school to make it up as they go.
