    Pros

Supportive and secure environment, other staff seemed happy and un-stressed.

    Cons

The location around Milbank at the time was pretty sparse, but that may have improved since.

I have been working at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - A good place to learn - that's partly because of a recently up-weighted focus on people / career development, but also because senior people get stuck in and involve more junior staff in nearly all client sessions - LEWIS is independent. So it can invest where it sees fit and be flexible. Not being beholden to a holding company or private equity makes a difference - Senior management is open and transparent with...

    Cons

    - I don't love the location (Westminster), but it's likely we'll be moving in the not too distant future when Millbank Tower turns residential - It seems to have taken a while to get the new career development proposals off the ground. In that time we lost some good people and so I think this should have come sooner

    Advice to Management

    - Ensure line management constantly looks ahead - not just how are we doing, but are we on track for where we want to be and what do we need to learn or experience to get there - It's good that we have exposure to Chris Lewis in paper reviews, but London is the HQ and Chris is here most of the time. It would be good to hear more from him on trends and his thinking. We have talks from internal and external speakers,...

    Pros

Generally, the people who LEWIS hire are smart, capable and driven professionals who care about their clients, the quality of the work they produce and want to deliver to help their clients' business objectives as best they can. LEWIS also has a great international network and are flexible about international travel - it it encouraged and funded in various ways, and genuinely is something to be applauded.

    Cons

LEWIS claims to care about its people but has a heartless, soulless way of showing it. People are nothing but numbers and it comes across very clearly. There is no inspirational management, and any kind of creativity or deviation from pure money-making initiatives is discouraged and stifled before they are allowed to flower. There has been a massive exodus of employees which has been completely unaddressed by...

    Advice to Management

A genuine leader for the UK and Europe is long overdue. Allow for creativity - it's what PR and marketing is ultimately about. Show that you care about your teams rather than treating them like numbers. Culture and values are instilled by actions - not by sending emails to everyone saying "look at what our values are".

I have been working at LEWIS Global Communications part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great people to work with: smart, quick, curious and committed to delivering excellent work - Some fantastic recent hires across the business are injecting new energy and giving different and interesting perspectives - As agencies go, there is a good work life balance - there definitely isn't a stay late culture. Everyone knows that agency world (particularly when it's global) doesn't just run 9-5 and there are lots...

    Cons

    - Sometimes, new ideas and initiatives are introduced but not followed through - Internal comms could be improved - There could be a bit more focus on personal career development plans (which are apparently in the pipeline now) - More external training would be helpful

    Advice to Management

    - Keep communicating with the wider team - Follow through on new initiatives and keep everyone updated - Keep hiring great people: don't compromise on standards - Be brave: building for the future isn't always easy but stick to a clear strategy and it will pay off

    Pros

The people. So many great, talented people. The agency is ambitious and wants people to succeed. It’s putting more and more effort and programmes into its talent mgmt and culture. It’s currently changing and building new capabilities and services. It’s exciting times.

    Cons

People may think the grass is greener but it isn’t. LEWIS does a lot right. Can always do more and the fact the management team is listening and doing more is good to see.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing with your people efforts. The quality of people is great, the opportunities are there and the outlook is positive.

I worked at LEWIS Global Communications full-time

    Pros

No matter what the recruitment team or the people you meet in your interviews might tell you, working at LEWIS is incredibly tough and a lot of the initiatives that made the company fun and exciting have been axed over the years in an effort to cut costs and increase margins. That being said, it is not all bad: - it is possible to work and travel to other offices within the network with most trips being subsidised to...

    Cons

The London office is once again at a point in its life, where a dangerous mix of squeezing margins, a lack of investment in people or the company culture, bleeding clients dry for every penny of additional budget and a general attitude of not caring about anything other than revenue has resulted in a massive staff exodus. Those employees that remain have to pick up more and more work as there have been consistently more...

    Advice to Management

Stop burying your heads in the sand. Acknowledge the problems and be genuine about having caused them. Ideally, apologise for getting the agency into this position. The constant "it's normal, we will get through this" makes you sound like a broken record and doesn't actually provide any relief or reassurance to anyone. Also, take a good, hard look in the mirror. Do you really care about the people you are supposed to...

I worked at LEWIS Global Communications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - There were, although most have left (see recent *mass exodus* reviews), some really energetic, talented, smart, dedicated, driven young talent who joined the agency and brought to it a new lease of life. I cannot speak to whether this is still the case, as most of said recruits have now left the agency. - There's a great view from the office (!!) - It's the kind of place you learn how 'not to be', and has definitely...

    Cons

    - There are some people in senior, well-paid roles, who don't have the skills, knowledge or most importantly the attitude or vision to lead LEWIS as a visionary business that people would actually like to work for. The management team is old-school, corporate and outdated where sexism rules and the only women who tend to succeed in leadership positions, are those with bullish attitudes; who don't care to breakdown gender...

    Advice to Management

MAKE A CHANGE. It's time to evolve and it has to start with management. Stuffy, old-school ideas of reviewing the papers early in the day, to strict rules around starting times are old-fashioned and outdated in comparison to the competitor agencies out there. VALUE your people - it's all well saying it - but SHOW it. Good people have left the agency on mass, not being happy with the culture and not being invested in...
