RecommendsNeutral OutlookNo Opinion of CEOI have been working at Lancaster University for less than a year
Pros
- Ability to manage own workload - Flexibility of hours - Varied tasks - Supportive colleagues - Free careers support for staff - helped me get a full time job straight after finishing internship - Great pay for what it was
Cons
- Morale in university staff declining due to university increasingly being run as a business. Pay cuts and longer hours for staff, bonuses for senior management. Sad to see people who believe in education and the betterment of students take cuts to their quality of life. This is a general trend in higher education however, not something unique to Lancaster.

Doesn't RecommendPositive OutlookI have been working at Lancaster University full-time for more than a year
Pros
Great team of people, with a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Beautiful campus setting with great views. Excellent facilities on site.
Cons
Lack of trust from senior management. VERY political, to the point where projects almost grind to a halt whilst decisions are awaited. Some members of the senior management will not hesitate to shout and swear in meetings.

Pros
Working in Events for Lancaster University Students' Union (LUSU), I had an active, fun, dynamic job. There is a really positive team culture in this department - everyone supports each other and will happily continue to lend a hand outside rota'd hours (even though they are absolutely not pressured to do so!). There is plenty of training and experience to be gained from working here. There are also lots of volunteering opportunities in other areas of LUSU, often organised by people you work with, making it easy to get involved. I could choose how much or how little I wanted to work so I was able to fit work around my degree. I believe the pay is excellent for a part-time student job, and it increases each year, often above inflation - since I left, the hourly rate for my job has gone up by 22p!
Cons
LUSU can feel cliquey and is certainly viewed by those outside as such. I'm not sure how this could be addressed though. I worked in a very close team and rarely saw or interacted with senior management so I felt disconnected with the wider organisation.
