Interesting company which has been involved in some of the countries most iconic buildings. The team I work with are very professional and set a good balance between work and life.

    Cons

The lack of bidding outwith London has caused major issues with the business

    Pros

Lendlease are a very corporate entity compared to most main contractors in the UK. However the focus on people encompassing training, remuneration and workplace culture is second to none

    Cons

Sometimes it can be frustrating when they are too kind to certain members of staff that aren't adding value. They tend to find underperforming people roles in different areas or keep them on the team when it would be better for all concerned to move on to new solutions.

    Advice to Management

Cut out the dead wood. Be more ruthless and subsequently perform better against the competition. Which unfortunately has not been the case in recent years within construction bidding.

I worked at Lend Lease full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great diversity of projects, definite feel of company history and identity, some great expertise and knowledge across the company, opportunity to travel in key roles...

    Cons

Poor professional development, unless you're a rising star performance related pay is poor... Leadership is constantly revolving... More process than you can shake a stick at...

    Advice to Management

Be consistent and encourage talent- people leave due to lack of a voice or opportunity...

I have been working at Lend Lease full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Having now worked at the company for 10 years I have been afforded some great career opportunities. I have been supported throughout with a great focus on personal and leadership development. The Springboard programme where you can visit Tasmania for a week to focus on personal development is open to all employees who have been employed for more than 2 years. The company offers up to 4 extra Wellbeing Days per annum to all employees who are actively encouraged by leadership to take these days to focus on personal health and wellbeing.

    Cons

A previous perception of being risk averse is gone with a real focus on investment in the Regions business as well as London

    Advice to Management

Continue the focus and investment on personal, leadership and career development.

I have been working at Lend Lease (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I have a great time at Lend Lease, but I found the regional offices where rather insular. Having said this if you where prepared to make the effort, you would be rewarded.

    Cons

Ones career path was somewhat limited by your relationship with the senior management, and by your line managers relationship with the senior management.

    Advice to Management

I think the company suffered in the down turn due to its inability to respond quickly to market changes, certainly in terms of available margins.

I have been working at Lend Lease full-time

    Pros

The benefits package is fantastic. Very competitive, and you can pick and choose to suit your lifestyle.

The head office in London is a extremely nice environment to work in. Employees are spoilt.

    Cons

    1. The construction arm of the business is run like as an old boys club. If you are part of the gang you are in. If not, I would advise you move on. This is clearly recognised throughout the business, and senior leadership appear to not want to/ or can’t do anything about it through fear of upsetting the long-standing construction MD.

    2. Core Values - some of them are not worth the paper they are written on.

    3. Don’t be disillusioned by the beautiful office. Scratch the surface deeper and you will see the cracks.

    Advice to Management

    1. Rebuild your construction leadership team.

    2. Build the talent in the UK rather than seconding the talent from Australia.

    3. Core Values - Practise what you preach

There is nothing worse than sitting in a town hall listening to management talk about values, when out in the field you know the opposite is happening.

I have been working at Lend Lease full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

CEO / COO passionate and generally approachable people, general focus on staff wellbeing, health and mental health gives employees an impression that the company cares. lots of ability to engage in community activities, flexible working (depending on whether your manager engages and agrees with flexible working or your role allows), nice office environment with loads of plants, lovely furniture and good welfare facilities (breakfast cereals, fruit and healthy snacks provided). After two years service you can apply for Springboard a personal development programme which is beneficial for those lucky enough to get selected. New global rebranding to give company a bit more of a modern feel.

    Cons

Career growth and general job satisfaction more suited towards senior managers - those below have little career growth, small and insignificant pay rises / annual bonuses and less opportunity to work flexibly. Company talks a lot about culture and values however head office has a very hierarchical structure and the Construction Department especially is very much still an 'old boys' club and there is little respect for those in more minor roles. Not very diverse, little presence of woman in senior roles, managers 'work from home' a lot leaving those in the office to do bulk of workload, salary reviews for lower grade roles poor, high rate of redundancies, large turnover,

    Advice to Management

Respect (a core value) needs to run throughout the whole business not just those in lower graded roles respecting senior management - a general lack of respect going the other way mostly from mid managers. Top heavy management structure, bullies stay employed despite many complaints to HR, eFinance doesn't work, too much cost savings decisions made despite detriment to staff welfare, talk of building for the future but reality is building for profit, creating economic issues by selling to offshore investors and pricing general public out of property markets.
