I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time for more than 19 years

    Pros

Worked here for c.20 years, progressing through c.10 different roles, giving me the opportunity to see the world & the Company evolve in the process, bright & collaborative people with an overriding purpose to advance the Rule of Law

    Cons

Can spend more time crunching data than with customers, both vital, but more focus needed on customer facing time

    Advice to Management

Use data to drive intelligent decisions, but spend more time with customers, notably at senior level

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time for more than 19 years

    Pros

Worked with some great people over the time at LexisNexis Enterprise Solutions. Some excellent middle management and employees in the business who generally care about the place and people. Excellent home working options and generally good work life balance.

    Cons

LNES are a small division of the wider LexisNexis company. <200 people and small revenues of <30m. The wider RELX and LN business have invested repeatedly to drive the next software success out of LNES and unfortunately those attempts have never been successful. Ultimately the main source of revenues have remained to be Visualfiles and InterAction and which can be very rewarding products to consult on with some...

    Advice to Management

In order to be successful the business needs to be led differently. The majority of Senior Leadership over the time has mostly failed to lead the business as a software house. Successful software requires much more than winning investment from the wider LN and RELX business and acquiring expertise to build it out.

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Being part of RELX, working at LexisNexis comes with corporate stability things: pension, healthcare, benefits etc. Standard working contract is 37.5 hrs. Working hours are super relaxed (the office is empty by 5pm most days) and working from home or remotely is not an issue. The new London office is a WeWork, which is pleasant. In software development and data science LexisNexis has to compete for talent in with companies...

    Cons

LexisNexis feels like a publishing not like technology company. It has high quality legal content, written and curated in house over decades and makes it accessible to the client (mostly law firms) for money. This content was/is the cash cow, still, but from a tech perspective LexisNexis seems shockingly falling behind in the ‘making it accessible’-bit. The corporate culture however makes data-driven change impossibly...

    Advice to Management

The data you hold may be a reliable cash cow now but when legal content will be democratised (and it will be) - LexisNexis needs to step up its game in content retrieval and enrichment. Innovation in technology is not ‘a product’, takes long-term investment a different way of thinking than writing and selling a book. Consider getting rid of some layers of management and listen more to your technologists - that will benefit...

I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

For young male computer enthusiasts, it is code camp and a star trek convention rolled into one.

    Cons

The UK business is going through a period of "transformation", intended to convert it to a modern, agile-adopting technology business (LN has been trying to change from a publishing outfit to a "technology provider" for at least 10 years, with little enthusiasm from customers who just want to be able to see their stuff). So out goes legal and editorial expertise, and in come ping pong tables and grown men (management!)...

    Advice to Management

LexisNexis has a powerful mission, which is to advance the rule of law around the world. If employees understood how their role fit in with achieving these goals and were engaged in the outcomes, it could be really inspiring. It is not exciting to see the managing director at an awards ceremony; seeing a content or product one has worked on improving someone's life would be. Senior managers should understand that they...
