I have been working at London Borough of Hackney full-time

    Pros

Great for graduates, good salary, work/family balance

    Cons

Only really see real growth/opportunities if employed as a young graduate. Its frustrating to see no opportunities for long term loyal staff members.

    Advice to Management

You work force could be even better if you gave existing employees the opportunity to progress with mentoring as you do the graduates. Many existing employees are over qualified for their roles however are never given the opportunity to showcase their skills.

Lively Council, with staff who want to make things better for the people of Hackney

    Cons

Can't think of any that I would want to put here.

    Advice to Management

    Can't really say.

I have been working at London Borough of Hackney full-time

    Pros

Salary is good for the field, autonomy, flexibility, friendly team, and skilled advisors

    Cons

Lack of guidance and genuine interest from management, poor development opportunities, a very confusing management and hierarchy structure, and a manufactured division between teams.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to analyse the depth of the workforce. Display leadership by example and make decisions based on informed liaison across the teams.

I have been working at London Borough of Hackney full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good location, good buildings.
Still some dedicated people left here.

    Cons

    - Colleagues speak to one another with barely concealed rage.
    - Constant restructuring.
    - Ridiculous staff turnover (have been to like 25 leaving do's in about 18 months)
    - Having to reapply for my current role for the 3rd time in 2 years!!
    - No staff retention policies
    - Too many sideways promotions

    Advice to Management

Stop paying external consultants and 'transformation teams' to sell you a load of nonsense. Go back to basics and use common sense.

I have been working at London Borough of Hackney full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great schemes in place for employees, work flexibility, good work/life balance.

    Cons

Little or no progression, no structure in place, government constantly cutting costs leading to work overload.

    Advice to Management

    Invest more in employees.

  9. "Teaching Assistant"

I worked at London Borough of Hackney part-time

    Pros

You get to experience what it is like to work in several different departments within the school and what its like to have both a office and practical job.

    Cons

A lot of the departments in the school are restricted and the shifts tend to be longer than what is stated in the job description.

    Advice to Management

Better organised shifts and less stressful work, also an easier way to move big clusters of documents from one place to another.

    Pros

A supportive and collaborative internal culture with good benefits and strong staff development

    Cons

As in all urban councils, central government cuts are making service delivery ever more challenging, with fewer staff and resources.
