Pros
Salary is decent. Some of my colleagues are great.
Cons
I'd just like to say that the following comments are my opinion only, based on my experiences working at Hackney Council. Some of the managers are considered by myself and other members of staff as a joke. I consider a number of them to be rude, dismissive and dangerously incompetent. There is an air of complacency and ineffectiveness in dealing with staff who basically take the mick and are never at work, or who fail to do their jobs properly. Those of us who do actually work hard aren't rewarded for it and are just constantly critisised and in my opinion also bullied. The job itself is very stressful and as such we should expect support from managers, but the unnecessary stress they cause the staff is worse then the job itself. No wonder they have such a high turnover of staff. I'm in the process of looking for another job and as soon as the opportunity arises I'm leaving. It's a shame because a lot of my colleagues are really great (some the opposite- I won't go into detail about that, suffice to say I will be glad to see the back of some of them). Also the life work balance isn't good due to the shift times.
