I worked at MAC Cosmetics full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

You can learn at MAC, there are so many customers you can practice on. I really liked the fun working environment, and the young spirit and energy.

    Cons

Working in a busy store was physically hard, and very stressful. I think it is a perfect place to work part time, or just for a 1-2 years, because you definitely learn a lot.

    Advice to Management

You should hire professionals to store manager and office roles more from outside the MAC. It is really nice you give opportunity to go higher in the hierarchy in the company, but sometimes I felt we miss to be more professional.

I worked at MAC Cosmetics part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Training they offer is brilliant, also hands on experience on counter is a plus!

    Cons

Management are like robots. They have no empathy for their team when personal problems arise.

    Advice to Management

Less HR robotic training and more case-by-case assessments of personal situations and be more human!!!!

I worked at MAC Cosmetics part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Good discount - Varying contracts available - Great people/team

    Cons

    - In experienced management - Favouritism in some stores

    Advice to Management

Figures are important, but appointments do mean time off shop floor. You can't force appointments to spend maximum.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at MAC Cosmetics part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Updates, discount and gratis

    Cons

Incompetent management who only get promoted due to who they suck up to, high school mentality (bullying, lying, trying to get people fired), no care for staff whatsoever and they are not as diverse as they would have you believe.

    Advice to Management

Care about your retail artists as they are extremely important. Stop promoting people just because they’re your friends, stop treating the work place like school, stop implementing absolutely ridiculous and unrealistic rules that don’t work on the shop floor and take feedback as you guys at the top are ruining the good name of the company,

    Cons

Unrealistic targets, no much recognition for doing well, lack of career opportunities

    Advice to Management

Listen to your teams as they have great ideas and are in touch with the customers and the reality of store. This is how the bet ideas will come to light!

Current Employee - Mac Retail Artist in London, England

I have been working at MAC Cosmetics part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free products every 6 months at update. Now 50% discount reduced from 60%. Discount across all of Estee Lauded Great team. (Instore) Great managers. (Instore) Can wear what you like as long as it's black. Can express your own personal style.

    Cons

Too sales focused. Pressure to make money. The incentives to make more money are rubbish. Hours can be really early or late depending on location. Make way above your target nothing is said, make below your target results in a meeting. Weekends, bank holidays, new year's day is probably the worst must be worked. The pay is rubbish!

    Advice to Management

To management sitting up in head office, get feedback from those of us on the shop floor before you implement decisions which are not practical. To the keyholders who try and make you do all the foundation matches, don't do that it's just as much your job as it is an artists.
