I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Free fruit, cereal and tea Office located near good food market Built new toilets due to them being chronically unavailable

    Cons

Macquarie is terrible at resourcing, using the guise of being entrepreneurial as an excuse to not hire urgently needed staff and work existing staff to exhaustion. Underinvestment in technology and infrastructure with ancient systems constantly being band-aided together. No regional application support as you are a satellite office. There is no transparency in the profit share model, and the yearly cycle is... designed to make it hard to leave as the financial year is different to every other firm.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your current staff and infrastructure. Start paying market rates. Stop skimping on additional headcount.

I have been working at Macquarie Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I've been at Macquarie long enough to know the company for what it's really like, and as a summary, they really push for self development and progression. Having supportive managers is extremely important for this, which is consistent across all divisions. A really important factor to consider especially if you're someone like myself who has recently graduated. In terms of culture - very flexible with a lot of... opportunities (e.g. working from home or, permanently relocating to other regions). Having spoken to a lot of the employees in other regions, I have noticed that Macquarie has managed to retain a lot of their talent who have come from other big name tier 1 investment banks/ financial firms. I've also worked in a tech start-up, where it is seen to be more 'laid back' than all these bigger corporate entities. However, at Macquarie there are a lot of social events/benefits (table tennis competitions, wine tasting, in-house music lessons, abseiling down the office building, division/team drinks, and many more!), so in that sense also competes with the same/similar 'laid back' culture & benefits as you'd get with start-ups.
