I worked at Magellan Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Many employees dedicated to the mission statement Flexibility to work from home as needed (prior to COVID-19) Compensation is competitive for some jobs

    Cons

Managers and employees are often not held accountable for their actions or lack thereof. Managers lack basic skills, are not trained and are promoted based on tenure which contributes to the high turnover Medical benefits cater to the more highly compensated employees as lower paid employees cannot afford to seek medical care with having only High Deductible Plans to choose from Directors and managers must become working managers due to a lack of resources Empathy too often replaces sound business decisions leading to fiscal irresponsibility Lack of centralization and standardization in some back office functions

I worked at Magellan Health full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Some really great people in the trenches to work with, pay was good, and work/life balance was good.

    Cons

Upper management was the only Con. No direction, didn't pay attention to reporting staff, keep trying everything under the sun with nothing really working.

    I worked at Magellan Health

    Pros

Work from home and good PTO

    Cons

Bad leadership and left the organization due to poor manager. There is no professionalism, empathy or team spirit! Managers lie to you straight on face and make excuses when caught. Incompetent leaders managing teams, esp. CI needs to go! There is no IQ/EQ or skills to run even a simple meeting.

I worked at Magellan Health full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Worked with some very committed colleagues at the director level and below. Flexible work hours/work at home arrangements.

    Cons

Poor executive and senior leadership - they are out of touch with staff and the work loads/demands required to manage existing business. Significant staffing reductions in last 2-3 years along with staff attrition have made workloads impossible/unrealistic to manage.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The people are great to work with. Most groups partner together to do the right thing. Flexible work schedules and locations. Good technology improvement to help employees collaborate when not co-located.

    Cons

The company values are not demonstrated by the Executive leadership in the Operations team. There are many teams that have an excellent culture of accountability, respect, trust, and innovation. Even senior leaders in the operations team are not empowered to make the most basic decisions. There is no trust or respect of the leadership team or the staff below the C-level. Communication is missing - specifically active, and empathetic listening by C-level leaders. Instead, they are defensive and dismissive. HR is more aptly called the non-human department - as it's impossible to reach a human. Adding technological methods to get answers and information is great, but not as a replacement for people.
