      Pros

Great people to work with, knowledgeable, and helpful. The odd customer makes your day better too.

      Cons

Way too many cons. Right now is an absolute terrible time to work for Maplin. There's a mass of managers leaving because of the ever increasing unreasonable targets. Over-time is being dropped, stock is being taken out of stores reducing availability, we're running stores on minimum numbers; all because head office overspent on trying to modernise all the stores at once. Big stores have the same amount to spend on staff as the smaller ones. Targets are set way too high, 3k days used to be good days, now they're disappointing. Lack of stock, lack of staff, and the lack training with increased stress has made the job that used to feel great to help people has forced lots of us to rush customers and not give them the service we once famously gave. Staff discount used to be great, so did bonuses. Now 5-25% instead of the 25% on everything. Lots of products without discount. Bonuses used to be around the £100 mark, now for most staff if you're extremely lucky it will be around £20. Rotas are not planned as they once was. It was expected to be around four weeks in advance. Now its around a week. Managers can't plan for the increase in targets. When to expect the unexpected massive price changes in the middle of a promo.

      Depends where you are

      Pros

There's good discount, depending on the area you buy in. I've also met some great people along the way who I'll keep in touch after I've moved on as well.

      Cons

Putting inexperienced managers in charge of departments, preferential promotions, wages are terrible. They have also made the decision to move a large chunk of northern based office jobs, down to London. This has caused some people to take on a "can't be bothered attitude". Some Regional Managers are bullies and have brought their Comet ways with them or sell the item, even if it isn't right for the customer.

A company I don't recommend to work for.

      Pros

Great people to work with. Good staff discount Large amount of products to gain knowledge on. Bonus is great but be aware of you get less, management get more.

      Cons

Poor pay £5.30 (if your 16 or over until you reach the living wage boundaries) It's a dictatorship of a company and management constantly watch you and tell you where to go like a Garmin Sat-Nav to annoy customers. Forcing staff to do multi-sales and data captures when customer just wants to leave the store. Although training is offered, it's very poor training. Maplin has a thing where they want staff to do the same and be the same and not be themselves. They won't allow you to have your own sales techniques. This Believe training is like a brainwashing scheme to annoy the customers and not leave them alone. The company sees nothing in there sales advisor staff and treat them like slaves. As one says in Maplin " management do nothing, sales advisors do it all" not only that, part timers be aware that they won't care for you. It's like point the finger. I don't recommend this to students still in education. They demand too much out of you and get annoyed if you can't do overtime. Not only that, you just don't need the hassle.
