I worked at Marks & Spencer as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - You get a discount.
    - The pay is above average.

    Cons

Stay away like the plague. Management threatens your job and the place is ran like a bit like a dictatorship. You get a 15min break only if you work >4 hours , otherwise you quite literally don't qualify for one (the managers go for tea or a cig every other hour though). Even if you run around doing everything and providing outstanding customer service, you get told you are incompetent. Staff are also often taken to the verge of mental breakdown. Many stay because they have no choice, but those that do are worked to the bone. Have also heard staff from other floors stating they got a telling off for actually going to the bathroom during shifts.

    Advice to Management

Sort your management out, because there are managers in your area who think they have some ungodly power over those in positions below them. The work area should feel safe and managers must have a level of respect for their employees that goes beyond "You do my bidding or I will not recommend you to any other future job". You have to re-evaluate who you hire into higher positions, because at the moment it's genuinely the last place people would (willingly) work at.
