I have been working at Marks & Spencer part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good staff discount, Busy, Good social events, Nice products, Nice Customers, on the whole a good place to have a part time job.

    Cons

Difficult to book time off. Very old building and facilities (toilets, staff canteen) are shabby. It is also very cold in the Winter - no heating.

    Advice to Management

Listen to customer comments on recent changes in sizing and quality of Women's clothing. Decide what age group to aim at for clothing. Don't be so accommodating on refunds - some of the products that come back have clearly been used. Hire more store security or tag clothes - at least restrict the number of clothes one person may take into the fitting room at one time.

I worked at Marks & Spencer as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay (when paid correctly), good discount, canteen, Christmas parties and nice staff members to work with.

    Cons

I've worked in 3 stores, in 4 different departments- poor management in some areas. I was underpaid, relentlessly had to call and tract down my managers who would offer to ring back and never would. I was misinformed about my contracts end date and never paid to full amount which I was owed. Eventually couldn't be bothered calling them anymore.

    Advice to Management

Meet basic standards and promises made to staff.

I worked at Marks & Spencer part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Well paid for fairly basic work

    Cons

Work was fairly basic and despite pushing for more responsibility to keep entertain, was given responsibility but then never received the recognition for doing the extra work

    Advice to Management

Look to promote hard working individuals sooner

I worked at Marks & Spencer part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed using my discount card. There were lovely people to work with. Although the customers had high expectations, they were generally really nice people.

    Cons

The card took a while to arrive, which was frustrating when you are only there a while, particularly as rate of pay is disappointing. As customers do have high expectations, they can be very demanding.

    Advice to Management

    None
