I have been working at Marks & Spencer part-time

    Pros

some friendly staff I work with (but everyone fed up of being treated badly)

    Cons

management is terrible, everyone in the store thinks so. they think they are gods and we are their minions. constantly talked down to and patronised by the majority of management throughout the whole store

completely disorganised, had the worst first week/induction ever as no-one knew I was starting when I was so I wasn't given an employee number, locker key, uniform, induction, anything. had to go and ask for it all myself and got treated appallingly by the admin team every time I went in, as if I was a complete inconvenience

discount is only 20% which the staff seem to all think is amazing and very generous but is the lowest in any shop I've worked in...

communication in general is basically non existent

    Advice to Management

treat your staff like colleagues rather than servants, you will get much better results if you go for the "all one team" method rather than reinforcing a hierarchy which just leads to incredibly high staff turnover and everyone miserable for being constantly talked down to.

    Doesn't Recommend

    I worked at Marks & Spencer part-time

    Pros

You can meet some really lovely people. I made many friends there. The job can be good, as long as everyone pitches in.

    Cons

One year I had to wait 6 months to get paid 32 hours of money. I also had to wait 9 months for new uniform, even though others were receiving uniform. Bullying culture. Unfairness when it came to job responsibility. One manager screamed at a temp when they asked about their job security. The temp was left in tears.

    Advice to Management

Follow the policies and do your jobs properly. Also, look to set an example in being professional. Morale is extremely important.

    Pros

great part time job great pay and atmopshere great training and oppertunities for career progression. great first time job so easy to give great customet service when your satisfied in your role

    Cons

i generally dont have any issues maybe bar new trained managers who didnt have much experience being your only point of contact on shop floor rather than higher level experienced ones

    Advice to Management

ensure you are on shop floor with trainee managers for often as decisions are made and mixed opinion rather than a set objective
