I worked at Marks & Spencer part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Professional culture on and off the shopfloor was really pleasant, everyone was very welcoming, supportive and friendly to myself and other new hires. Pay is above average for similar roles in other stores, hours more friendly and management were very approachable

    Cons

Employee facing website is ugly, slow and broken, especially on mobile. Information about availability doesn't seem to be communicated properly via the online route. Key aspects like roster times, end dates, and payslips not available on mobile.

    Advice to Management

Management on the shop level; keep doing a great job. Your recruitment strategy finds plenty of people that are a pleasure to be around. As for upper management, reorganising how offers are communicated to customers will prevent loss of goodwill from a significant portion of long time customers. Removal of anything that appears to be deceitful will go a long way

I have been working at Marks & Spencer part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free tea & coffee, bread & some fruit. Oh, and the 20% discount card on the majority of M&S branded products

    Cons

An unbelievable amount of managers that have no idea what the concept of communication is. Unpaid breaks, 30 minutes break for a whole 8 hour shift, which is the bare legal minimum, food waste doesn’t get sold to staff incase people ‘benefit’ they’d rather it goes into bins instead. Small contracts, not enough staff, people given very short notice about not having their contracts extended or being made permanent. M&S is not an employer like people think it was 15 years ago. Oh, and if you’ve got a problem it might take you going round 5 managers in circles to get anything sorted

    Advice to Management

Less managers and communicate more. 8 or 9+ managers for one store is ridiculous when the shop floor seems so understaffed most of the time
