    Pros

Good atmosphere, lovely people. Excellent staff discount available immediately. Flexible hours. Good work structure in the Foods department.

    Cons

Extensive training. Organisational structure is far too big, no need for so many different managers or section co-ordinators.

    Advice to Management

Consult each other when making decisions. Make a decision and stick to it.

I worked at Marks & Spencer as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Extensive training provided. Felt like I could ask for help if needed. Staff very patient with me. Friendly atmosphere

    Cons

Some supervisors were quite aggressive about getting you to hand out customer surveys when you were on the till, which got annoying at times

    Advice to Management

Don't pressure staff too much to hand out customer surveys, just say hand it out to customers you feel you gave a good service to

    Pros

Very good company too work for, everything was very clear and the training prepares you as much as it can for the real thing.

    Cons

Hard to secure permanent contract after temporary role, management are sometimes hard to approach although they are actually quite friendly once you get to know them.

    Pros

Large and friendly teams, flexibility, varied days.

Definitely a great store to work in for Christmas!

    Cons

Reluctance to place staff on permanent contracts - lack of security. Not much progression - in-store and head office are completely separate.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the positive work culture.

I have been working at Marks & Spencer part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

M and S treat their employees well, The rate of pay is good and you can get ahead in the business if you are interested to do so.

    Cons

I can't say there is any con's except maybe 2 half hour breaks on a 9hrs shift when it used to be a 15min and a 45min which was much better.

    Advice to Management

Have enough staff there to have someone on duty in the fitting rooms full time and bring back 'Limited' Label to the smaller stores again.

I have been working at Marks & Spencer full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good rate of pay if just starting here, good discount, good holidays, choice of free uniform styles. Most have canteen with discounted range of hot & cold food, free hot drinks from vending machine.

    Cons

Most management lack the ability to do their job. The staff who have shown loyalty & worked there for over 15 years have had all their benefits removed which has resulted in a pay cut of over £1500pa, choice - that or leave!

    Advice to Management

The long serving staff have already been kicked in the teeth by the company, stop treating them like a burden, they're the ones with the work ethic...
