I worked at Marks & Spencer full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The salary is very competitive, along with a nice environment to work and very flexibe working hours on a week to week basis.

    Cons

Can sometimes be under staffed, meaning that some days of the week you can be under pressure to complete all the tasks that are expected of you.

    Advice to Management

Overall Marks and spencer is a very good place to work, whether you are looking for a saturday job, career or some part time work, however, my only advice to management would be to assure staffing levels are consistent.

    Pros

The team and sale floor staff
Every day feels different as it is a large store
    Worked in all departments

    Cons

Managements general lack of communication, untrustworthy and slyness puts me up
Hard to climb up the ladder unless you have a good manager who stays in store longer than other managers and help you develop

    Advice to Management

    Communication

I worked at Marks & Spencer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Overtime fairly available but more specifically in run up to seasonal events, good pay, good opportunities and great development if you're willing to put the work in, reasonable colleague recognition scheme, lots of events, good benefits.

    Cons

Turn around of management too often, management hierarchy and attitudes vary greatly, hard and long process to progress because of management turn around, lack of staff, having to do the work of 5 people, stressful at times.

    Advice to Management

Make time to update your staff on the stores progression/targets etc keep them in the loop and don't just engage with a few. Make your colleagues feel like a valuable team and include the entire store so departments can work together better.

    Pros

    -Nice Colleagues
    -Busy environment
    -Good pay
    -Manageable workload

    Cons

    -Very frequent change in management.
-Most of the top bosses don't have much knowledge or education.
-Not supportive towards students or does not want to support students willing to take studies after working for few years.
-Race and ethnicity comes to consideration when you apply for career progression.

    Advice to Management

You need to keep the young workers motivated to help this company to keep it's name and brand it has earned, as your ageing management is not doing well by focusing too much in the business and driving out young workers. And creating a negative image of the company.

    Pros

Very much like a family in my simply food store. Staff discount is nice and we get other perks too.

    Cons

Staff cuts and lack of resource means we are all worked very hard which can lead to stress and sickness. Retail pay is poor of course

    Advice to Management

Focus more on staff well being. Pushing us for more constantly will not always result in better work. We can burn out
