      Cons

A big corporate company. Very complex. Difficult at times, to coordinate and connect efficiently to get things done quickly.

      Best job I've had.

      Pros

Coming to the end of a 30yr+ career in the City and feel like I've found the place I should have been a long time ago. Mastercard (and Vocalink where I work) is an extremely friendly and collegiate workplace. Having strong relationships with senior people is very easy and there is a rarely any kind of City MD attitude - in fact that would be frowned upon. All places have politics but it is not super intrusive here. Inter-company frictions are probably the worst but the over-riding mentality is get on and solve the problem. They aren't firing people left right and centre for minor stuff (City banks, are you listening?). Mastercard is keen on retention and career building. Payments is a BOOM industry and the opportunities are endless.

      Cons

End user tech is NOT good. It can be very clunky and frustrating. This is often caused by the integration of acquisitions and it can slow you up. I've mentioned tensions between the mothership and acquisitions. It improves constantly and is not helped by the lockdown Zoom interaction which means relationship building is more difficult.

      Pros

Majority of the colleagues are nice to work with. Focus on relationships. Flexible working arrangements. Encouraged to move around to different positions in the company for growth.

      Cons

A bit sluggish on innovation and future prospect is not too bright unless the company sucessfully diversifies its offerings

      Unbelievably Amazing Culture + People

      Pros

Mastercard have the most amazing people at every level. I feel capable and confident speaking to anyone and everyone about anything, and everyone has time for anyone regardless of who you are or what you do. There's a huge emphasis on the culture and celebration of diversity at the company, which all builds together to make pretty much anyone and everyone feel comfortable here.

      Cons

Depending on what role or area you work in, you can have very long working hours. However, this is caveated by a very strong internal focus on us as individuals being able to speak to our managers about how we want our work-life balance to look.

      6 Year Review at Mastercard

      May 21, 2021 - Senior Implementation Manager

      Pros

I have been a part of first in market launches. Recently Mastercard have been really focused on optimizing processes and making efficiencies for technical and operational staff, which many large organizations could benefit from. The team work/culture and great work life balance is really felt as when there is heavy workload you are offered generous flexibility in when to accomplish the work.

      Cons

Some very talented and experienced teams are based in the States, we wish we had more of those resources on European soil. I would say the benefits vary widely depending on which office you belong to, some standardization may be well received.

Good company, not too much stress

Jul 8, 2021 - Software Engineer in Edinburgh, Scotland, Scotland
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The company culture is good, and not to stressful. The salaries are ok with regular bonuses based on the company performance.

      Cons

Bureaucracy is causing software development to be slow. Focusing on growth at technology hubs. If you are working at a smaller office it's harder to get a promotion.
