Good Coworkers; Bad Bosses

Pros

- The quality of person employed at lower levels tends to be very high. Not just in a technical since either, they're good people. - The work, depending on the client and the team, can be very challenging and rewarding but this is highly variable and unpredictable.

Cons

- The manifesto on the Metova website is plagiarized. (Search for "Netflix Culture Deck" and compare) The management doesn't believe it anyway. - The management will not hesitate to pass the buck down to an inferior when an issue arises. There is no ownership unless it cannot be avoided. - The pay, which they claim is top of market, is inconsistent. Developers with little or no experience can start at higher salaries than more experienced devs. Raises are discussed in terms of percentage increase, so an experienced dev who starts low, will never catch or surpass the less experienced dev who was hired at a higher rate. - Developer Bill of Rights, from Planning Extreme Programming, is posted as part of the development process, yet routinely ignored for client requests. - Path for promotion is entirely opaque. The documentation surrounding it is mostly based on the aforementioned plagiarized culture doc. Positions above developer such as lead and senior and director have no objective criteria. It's mostly cronyism.

Pros

They try to "promote" a "good" culture, if you're male and love the "bro" culture then absolutely. Free beer!! Decent benefits.

Cons

Never actually on vacation, flexibility is only for some of the dev shops not federal side. Very poor HR team, leadership is all over the place. Very poor work environment and no real interest in employee's work/life balance. Criticism is rarely helpful, it's mean spirited and aggressive. Once a mistake is made, it will never leave and it will then determine the trajectory of your career. CEO is aggressive, harsh, hostile and abusive. Women developers are either targeted sexually or basically called ugly and completely dismissed, there's no in between. It's all a good ole boy system and the leadership is greatly lacking in vision and long term sustainability. The development pool is only so large in Arkansas, pretty soon you'll run out of decent talent to run off.

Terrible Company

Pros

I don't think there are any benefits to working here. It used to be a great place to work, now they are only focused on trying to retain any resemblance of a company and replacing you for Mexican developers.

Cons

Management is incompetent. They have no empathy or understanding how the business works at all. There is no chain of command, so anything you pass up goes nowhere. No employee engagement or any willingness to make the company great, unless it lines their pockets.
