I have been working at Ministry of Justice UK full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Smart people - Genuine ability to make a positive change in the Justice system - A caring attitude to staff: flexi-time, great work/life balance, brilliant for working families - Good pension, decent annual leave

    Cons

    - Management take staff for granted - constant uncertainty and dithering when it comes to important decisions from the top, e.g. moving offices - Pointless restructuring of the organisation every 6 months - Real-terms pay cut every year - Awful IT

I worked at Ministry of Justice UK for more than 3 years

    Pros

Hugely interesting and diverse workload. Head office was a prestigious environment. Many kind, well-meaning people. Good work life balance (you can easily work from home). High pressure environment... which is a good thing.

    Cons

Too much outsourcing, leaving the staff to become glorified data crunchers and pen pushers (with little hand-dirtying work to get involved in). Too much reporting. Bullying, while ostensibly frowned upon, is not only endemic, but (anecdotally) is most in evidence at the very top (i.e. with the DG).
