I worked at MinterEllison full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Most seniors are good to work with

    Cons

Poor pay and long hours (but standard for a law firm)

I have been working at MinterEllison full-time

    Pros

    Overall, nice bunch of people

    Cons

Have seen too many associates and senior associates who are extremely overworked and struggling (to the point of being unwell), but no additional staff recruited to assist. Salaries low in comparison to other law firms.

    Positive Outlook

    I worked at MinterEllison full-time

    Pros

    - Despite being a top-tier, down-to-earth people who don't take themselves too seriously - Partners who genuinely care about the wellbeing of their teams - Ability to learn from some of the best and smartest lawyers in the country - Intellectually stimulating and challenging - Salaries starting to become more competitive - Genuine overseas work opportunities

    Cons

    - Long hours (like any law firm) - Bonus system doesn't always work (if you're the victim of write-offs out of your control) - While partners do genuinely care about the wellbeing of their teams, the work still needs to get done. So while they're still being grateful and appreciative, they're not exactly going to say "please don't sacrifice your night/weekend to get that done", rather they'll say "thank you for sacrificing your weekend to get that done, I really appreciate it".

  4. "Great Company"

I worked at MinterEllison part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great partnership, ethical, a good place to work

    Cons

Law firms can be a challenge, but this is a good one

I have been working at MinterEllison full-time

    Pros

No hierarchy - partners are very much have an open door policy and are very supportive of junior mentorship

    Cons

Like most top law firms, hours can be hard

I have been working at MinterEllison full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Colleagues are friendly, collegiate culture, top tier work, not too stuffy and arrogant. Pay is competitive. Fairly loyal to its employees

    Cons

Still a top tier law firm that requires long hours and commitment usually. Trying to hold onto the old law model of fees and rates - which is coming under increased scrutiny and pressure.

I have been working at MinterEllison part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Low partner to associate ratios for a big firm. Partners really care about the long-term success of the business.

    Cons

It's a big company, and if you don't make an effort it's easy to feel like a number or get lost in the crowd. Still a pretty conservative business, but seems no worse than other law firms.

    I worked at MinterEllison

    Pros

I found this firm a good environment to work in due to the intelligence of the partners and the friendly atmosphere amongst colleagues. I also found the convenient location of the law firm useful for transport.

    Cons

It would be difficult to talk about the cons without mentioning the political nature of some of the secretaries who work at this law firm. It seems like they enjoy the power they have with respect to accessing the partners they work for and exercise it to intimidate some junior lawyers.

I worked at MinterEllison full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good graduate program with training and rotations in various groups. This would vary from year to year, but the graduate group is generally collegiate.

    Cons

As with all law firms, it's the individuals who let the firm down. The senior lawyers who do not treat more junior lawyers well (and nothing is done by HR/management).
