I have been working at Mizuho Financial Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Global business; Can extend large balance sheet commitments to clients; willing to take (calculated) risks when building a business for the long term; pays well; nice office; respected bank

    Cons

Slow; Japanese culture can get in the way; Tokyo has too much control; senior management rotations (every 2/3 yrs) can cause a headache especially in specialist roles; the bank genuinely wants to change its ways, however stop due to legacy reasons / risk averse / management do not understand

    Advice to Management

Maintain culture within bank, however trust more non-Japanese colleagues to take on senior management roles. Mizuho has fantastic capabilities for its clients, however they could be more effective if Mizuho Securities had a bigger balance sheet; Overall business is good, however would be much improved by faster decision making process in Tokyo, but also more decision making in EMEA

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Mizuho Financial Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work life balance is good, but getting harder over time. Friendly culture

    Cons

Japanese expect non Japanese to adhere to their culture. That is not realistic if you want to be a global organisation

    Advice to Management

Decision making is slow and seems to be short term focused. Mid to senior management is bearing the pressure, whilst Senior management come up with theories which may not be practical.

I worked at Mizuho Financial Group full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I worked in the London office for over twlve years Relaxed atmosphere. Reasonable work life balance.

    Cons

Overly bureaucratic process imposed by Head Office and constant inteference process by them meant the the time spent on form filling and documentation was twice as long as time spent the field work. The benefits package is poor compared to English or American counterparts

    Advice to Management

    Simplify process

I have been working at Mizuho Financial Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good and supportive working environment where you can develop at your own pace. Also healthy business flow.

    Cons

Outdated systems & archaic employee benefits.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in systems to improve efficiency and provide more flexibility/basic perks to employees to improve loyalty (eg working from home, fruit, extra holidays etc). You need to do these asap to stay competitive.
