      shameful ex-employees

      Pros

the company offers great employee benefits. Managers offer good support but could be helped more by the business. Pay is good and it is a friendly and fun environment

      Cons

direction has been lacking from senior management for a number of years. there is a lot of red tape which gets in the way of doing the right thing. got to say some of the comments from ex employees are a nonsense. i have never experienced any drug taking in the Glasgow office, laughable comment. Nothing about sexual favours either. Obviously a disgruntled former employee who has been sacked.

Not the Place for Product Managers

22 Nov 2010 - Product Manager in Maynard, MA

      Pros

      * The Maynard office, an old mill, is beautiful if you like historic buildings * There are some excellent people working there in various departments * Senior management has improved significantly since Sal took over * You're working on products that help people get jobs * It's not rocket science

      Cons

      * Technology/Development owns the products, not product management, despite what they try to sell * There are a ton of problems to deal with every day, and management is interested only in critical maintenance. As a result, product managers spend at least half their day dealing with problems and tempers, pleading with Dev to fix an issue. * Monster's been having multiple layoffs each year for the past few years. Be careful if job stability is something you value, even if you get very positive reviews. * Monster has a lot of people, and trying to get something accomplished takes monumental effort. * Some of the managers will try to bully you, something I've never seen elsewhere at tech companies.

You will be Laid Off Eventually

      Pros

Give you a good salary, while you are there. You may survive if you are kind of person, coaxing senior management all the time and give a perception that you are working diligently, irrespective of what value work you actually contribute

      Cons

Company is in fact in a downward spiral. Going in loss every quarter. Hard Work or quality work will not be acknowledged by senior management. Your immediate managers may value your work but senior management is eventually be responsible for laying you off. If you are a kind of person, who believe in providing quality work and likes to be there for your work, this is not the company to be in. If you are a kind of person who will be using his communication skills at maximum to brag how good you are performing, you may survive 2-3 years. EVERYTHING IS PERSONAL, IN THIS COMPANY. NO DECISION IS BASED ON WHAT VALUE WORK YOU ARE DELIVERING. IF THEY DON'T LIKE YOU FOR WHATEVER REASON, YOU ARE NOT GONNA SURVIVE. Good Luck with that.

Great when I started, but losing steam with Sal at the helm....

      Pros

The people on the front lines are amazing. I met some of my greatest friends there. Good benefits. Competitive salary.

      Cons

Senior management has lost focus - more concerened with tracking metrics then actual selling. Advancement in Maynard office is awful. Many times outside people are brought in over viable inside candidates. Top talent are in an exodus.

There are a ton of people at Monster who have been here 5+ years.

8 Jul 2014 - National Account Manager in New York, NY

      Pros

There is a ton of earning opportunity at Monster on the sales team. The senior management team fosters relationships with top performers and grooms them for senior sales opportunities. They offer a solid training program and really believe in their products.

      Cons

The corporate culture at Monster is no corporate culture. If you're looking for an amazingly fun place to work, look elsewhere.

Good place to work, competent Senior Managers and good work/life balance

      Pros

I worked in the Chicago office and enjoyed the leadership and talent in the Senior Management ranks. Wish more companies had effective leadership. Work/Life balance was definitely practiced and not just preached. Communication was open and leadership was available when needed. Opportunities were given to lead large and interesting projects.

      Cons

None. I would work for them again.

      Pros

big brand and cool technology fun working environment in recent months and getting better - managers are stepping it up a lot more focus on the employees and the customers coming from senior management

      Cons

stressful targets and not rationale management needs to be seen and heard more if they want the momentum to keep going

      Too late

      12 Oct 2013 -
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Still some dedicated people. The work has a noble purpose - helping people find jobs, helping employers find people. Employers still need somewhere to find resumes. A faded but still fun brand idea.

      Cons

Since Monster's leadership lost the race with LinkedIn and speciality sites to be a preferred recruiting platform, it's been utterly obvious that senior management is milking this to enrich themselves. Culture of innovation died long ago. Job agent results are embarrassing. The market has spoken, taking market cap down 90% since the current management took over, while they have paid each other millions. This would be an especially sad story if it weren't so utterly banal.

      It's a monster world

      12 Jun 2008 -  in Maynard, MA

      Pros

Monster offers a great benefits package to all employees, including 401k, flex spending, etc. There are a lot of dedicated, hard working people who strive to do a good job. Monster is a great brand name to have on your resume.

      Cons

Horrible communication from top management down. People are put into management positions when they do not have a solid understanding of the business. Monster's salaries to not comply with its own salary survey. Senior management came from outside of the internet industry and they are not familiar with the industry. Senior management does not value the contributions of the employees.
