I worked at NTT DATA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    * Lovely offices * Jars of chocolates, fresh fruit and treats left lying around every day * Entry pay seems high * High focus on socials * Superficially 'diverse' but only in the junior roles, which is where you will stay forever

    Cons

Work - if you are an IT/Digital, Telco specialist and have no interest in real business transformation then this is the place for you! They will sell it to you hard as a proper consultancy but actual, genuine business consultancy assignments are as rare as rainbow unicorn eggs, in other words they don't exist. They will tell you how they can compete with the big boys but this is simply a lie, it is all IT/Digital. There is nothing wrong with this but only join if your area of expertise is technical and telco. The bench - recently this has started to be managed in a draconian way where consultants are forbidden from seeking consulting leads and generating their own work. Anyone who has worked in any other consultancy will know that this is a bizarre and frankly cretinous way of operating. The only reason this could be happening is to maintain a list of those who could be culled when the time comes because they can be identified as idle/useless. There are legendary tales of people being left on the bench for up to a year through no fault of their own. Promotion - This is and it has been said before 'an old boys club'. It was set up by a group of Telco friends who only initiate other Telco, white, male clones into the leadership team. There may be one or two ethnics in senior positions but diversity is just wear a BLM t-shirt day or come to an 'exciting' curry evening and that's it. The composition of the leadership team and who gets promoted tells its own story - the facts speak for themselves. Leadership - there isn't any, the leaders are mostly extremely poor with the best ones having left . Any successes gained over the last few years was comprehensively destroyed by a properly daft agile re-organisation which delivered zilch. A great example of how having a Harvard business qualification doesn't mean you can deliver anything. Last year they received 10s of millions of pounds in investment from their Japanese parent company which is basically the only thing that is propping it up. Consulting - the small consulting team is is led as though everyone was back in their 6th form with jolly initiatives that are old fashioned and just useless and pointless in generating any extra work and worst still in training junior consultants on anything useful. Culture - you will have to do some serious smoozing to get into the 'in crowd' which will at least guarantee the best projects and promotions for doing nothing particularly spectacular. Rewards are based on favouritism and if your face fits and if you are prepared to suck up to the disproportionately large number of incompetent directors and leaders.

I worked at NTT DATA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You get paid on a monthly basis. Easy access to a gentlemen’s club next to their new office.

    Cons

Leadership and management are bullies and will lie to cover their own mistakes. Staff turnover is very high, if you survived 2 years congratulations as you haven’t been managed out yet or pushed out yet. Leadership has a report as to who has been in the company less than 2 years as a firing list, as you have no employment rights. Lots of positive reviews here are due to HR actively encouraging you how amazing the place is and that you should write a glassdoor review whilst you are within your probation period aka honeymoon period. Most people are looking to leave as the environment is toxic. If you are from an ethnic minority watch your back and be prepared to be fired or expect no promotions.

    NTT DATA Response

    VP HR

Thank you for your review. We take all reviews seriously and use them to help us learn and grow. To your point about encouraging reviews, yes we do, but we would never ask anyone to leave a review that is anything other than 100% their own opinion, but we do want people to know how great it is working here. At NTT DATA we are proud of our very diverse teams, our embracing of diversity and inclusion is what enables us to continue to be key partners to our clients who also value the differing opinions and viewpoints that diversity enables. We know we have more to do, we’d love nothing more than to see an increase in female applicants and employees and as such we actively participate in The Girls Network and the 30% club as well as running our own very active Women’s Business Network. We have also recently launched the Cultural Ethnicity Network (CEN) whose mission is to celebrate the cultural and ethnic diversity of our colleagues, championing ethnic minority progression and inclusion. Ensuring that everyone feels included and engaged is very important to us. To facilitate this we are in the process of implementing unconscious bias sessions and talking circles whereby people feel they can talk openly in a safe space and learn from one another. We will continue to drive existing and, where required, start new initiatives to ensure that we continue to embrace diversity and inclusion.

I have been working at NTT DATA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Breadth of work within Impact Consulting. The opportunity to continuously learn through a range of weekly webinars, learning and development sessions, we are also exposed to first hand industry leading research. The organisation has taken excellent care of employees during the current lock-down in the UK (still running appraisals and promotions). The people within Impact Consulting, who are team players, intelligent and motivated. I take pride in the cutting edge projects we work on particularly those that can make a difference in the healthcare sector and the public sector.

    Cons

Consulting hours sometimes. However, I believe these can be much worse in other organisations and many people within the organisation really promote work life balance.

I worked at NTT DATA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Really intelligent people to work with, you learn a lot - Generally very friendly environment - Lovely offices - Reasonable pay - Flexible working

    Cons

The environment and culture seems to have deteriorated over the past year or so. Can't quite put my finger on it but there have been a lot of changes and no real benefit can be seem from these changes. Some (emphasis on some) senior managers are truly awful, they can be nice one minute and completely hell the next so you just don't know when/how to approach them. This is a real shame because it has caused the organisation to lose its shine. Pay increase = next to nothing Lack of clarity over the work we actually have available. You're not allowed to network to get onto projects - this is "forbidden" so you are left waiting for Resourcing team to contact you when something comes up....whenever that may be. It generally ends up being "can you tidy up some slides" types of requests.

I have been working at NTT DATA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good and smart people on the ground

    Cons

It doesn't matter what you achieve or the value you bring to the company and its clients. You are only rewarded if you have the right internal connections. Total lack of transparency and clarity over the work available (if there is any). It's a total non-sense. You are penalised for being too much on the bench but you're not allowed to network to get onto projects - this is "forbidden" as only the resourcing team can decide for you ( it generally ends up being "can you tidy up some slides" types of requests).

I worked at NTT DATA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are nice offices, lots of good people work there at the more junior levels. Pay is average.

    Cons

It used to be a good place to work but as a result of choosing to persue a strategy purely based on revenue growth it has lost its shine. Senior management is poor, projects are almost exclusively telco, there is no business consulting, just large IT transformation projects. It is all IT. People have been known to sit on the bench for months on end. Bullying by certain members of senior staff has led to people leaving the company. Everyone seems to know who the bad eggs are but senior management doesn't do anything about it? Jobs for the boys. Spending your life commuting hours a day to drab telco offices in places like Hook, Bracknall and Maidenhead. The only way to progress is to cosy up to the right people.
