I have been working at NTT DATA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

New London office near Old Street is good.

    Cons

I joined what I thought was a growing digital technology company who provided innovation and consulting to major telco corporates and insurance companies. I was sold a vision of startup culture, innovation and management consulting. Unfortunately this is far from the case. I was immediatley put on a bodyshop project, my requests for training not approved (only IT services scrum/agile etc. training is approved), and I have not seen a UK project come even close to what would be considered consulting let alone strategy consulting. The company has some fun and cool junior consultants however the senior directors and leadership team have no vision bar low margin bodyshopping strategy and favouring an inner clique of suck-ups. This toxic culture permeates the entire London office. People from Deloitte, PWC etc interview regulary, the good ones immediately spot the hype and don't join.

Thanks for your review, there is a lot going on at NTT DATA UK at the moment as we grow rapidly and invest in our future. It's great to know that we have so many employees that genuinely love working here. It's not perfect but we are going in the right direction.

    "Low margin IT services bodyshop"

I have been working at NTT DATA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nothing apart from the new office location and some of the new joiners

    Cons

The problem NTT DATA face in the UK is the inability to accept they are a very low margin IT bodyshop. Most of the junior "consultants" are in IT project management or PMO related activities. As a bodyshop the margins are so low the UK barely makes any profit. There was an endless discussion about soft drinks and coke in the kitchen. The cost was estimated at £50k which meant we had to sell over £1.5million in new business! Profit margins less than 4%, no money to invest in staff, IP point squarely to a low end bodyshop and glorified staffing agency. As other posts have said, ignore the hype about "being a startup" or "Japanese innovation" - that is true but not in the UK. A complete illusion where all the good people do their 1 to 2 years and leave.

I have been working at NTT DATA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The business has commenced a transformation programme to differentiate itself from the usual SIs and as such stands out against the Indian off-shore guys as well as the big global consultancies. It offers value for money to the customers, which in turn gives the environment a good vibe. Some impressive colleagues and generally a supportive atmosphere.

    Cons

Back office is a bit chaotic

I have been working at NTT DATA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I guess if you want to do low end IT technology consulting as part of a managed service its ok and the London offices are in a very good location.

    Cons

NTT DATA in the UK does not know who they want to be. This may (in part) be reflected by the massive egos of the senior management who like to believe they are akin to McKinsey's/Bain's etc but know deep down they do low end IT services projects and bodyshopping. Perhaps they are embarassed or don't want to see reality however the dearth of real c-suite relationships or real strategy projects is the true picture. NTT DATA is a IT bodyshop (look at all the strategic staffing hires - now rebranded to Partners & Alliances) but they just cant seem to be honest and instead talk vaguely about 'Japanese innovation' and changing the world. Junior consultants know this and the good ones are just waiting to leave whilst the ones who were sold the 'Digital' or 'Start-up consulting' dream to leave Deloitte/PWC seethe in annoyance they got suckered in.

I worked at NTT DATA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some very capable staff especially the on-shored India managers.

    Cons

A mess of acquisitions, internal rivalries, cliques and diverging strategies. Near impossible to get anything done.

I have been working at NTT DATA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

No one knows who NTT DATA is in the UK. Very helpful when you are interviewing to leave as people dont realise how poor the UK company is.

    Cons

As others have rightly mentioned this is not a place for management consulting or business consulting let alone 'strategy consulting'. The other review trying to claim we compete (and beat) McKinsey is telling. Half the business consulting commmunity shakes their head in disbelief at the review...the other half believe it whilst sitting in their body shop role looking at change management or some other IT low end technology 'consulting'. The UK business tries to portray itself as a 'start-up' or an 'innovator'...it's all not make believe. The mjaority of the consultants are body shop or doing really basis IT stuff. If this is the work you want to do at least go to Accenture and get a better brand. If you want to become a management consultant do not come here.
