I have been working at Nando's UK full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Autonomy to run your business the way you feel is the right way.

Huge investment in the development of their people.

As a Patrao I get to be a part of more around the region and have a positive impact not just in my restaurant but in the region as well as the company.

Very well looked after with a strong emphasis on work life balance and some amazing financial incentives as well.

Biggest thing is they embrace the differences in people and help you bring out the best in others whilst improving yourself along the way.

    Cons

Genuinley cannot think of much other than it would be good to see more restaurants open in the north west.

    Advice to Management

Be yourself and really push your boundaries because the company will support you 100%

I have been working at Nando's UK full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've never worked in a company that actually live and breath their values. They look after and develop their team like no other in the food industry in the UK. Coming from my previous employer (One of the biggest restaurant and pub chains in the UK) I finally have a work life balance!

    Cons

They don't offer 'Live-in' positions however that is due to often being purpose built units rather than old pubs.

    Advice to Management

Live the values, get involved, enjoy yourself and be positive.

I have been working at Nando's UK full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Friendly people. 4 week sabbatical every 5 years worked. 3 day conference every 2 years with plenty of team trips and teambuilding events

    Cons

Long working hours if your line manager doesn't manage their recruitment properly. Not loads of options in the north outside of the restaurant.

    Advice to Management

Invest in making sure there is always enough back up management positions.

I worked at Nando's UK full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people at the front line level.
    Plenty of parties
    Free food
    Free alcohol

    Cons

    Long hours
Overtime expected as standard but unpaid
    Holiday entitlement not always honoured
The culture is almost like a "cult of nando's"
Rife cocaine usage amongst management (assistants, patraos, MDs (London/greater London)
A high number of London managers used to have airbeds in office to sleep at work (when finishing work at 1am and having to return at 6for delivery)

    Advice to Management

Your values are great in theory. It's a shame that beneath the surface they mean very little. Parties and alcohol used to persuade people to work longer hours. In 5 years I don't believe I ever worked the contractually agreed hours - sometimes working up to double my contract hours with no paid overtime or lieu days.

Also full of internal politics, cut throat atmosphere, people take credit for others work and quite a bit of dishonesty.

I worked at Nando's UK full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company has a great vision and is incredibly charitable

    Cons

The company vision is not followed by all Patrao’s, if this was acted upon then it could be a truly great company to work for, unfortunately at regional to restaurant level the profit line expectations are above the need to “create lasting happiness.” Some regional managers lack empathy.

    Advice to Management

Decide whether you want ridiculous profits or to be an ethical company, take regional managers to task who lack management retention- there’s a reason for this. Make sure you exit interview everyone not just the managers that have left on a high. Understand that not everyone wants to get drunk and go on holiday with colleagues, some people would rather be rewarded with extra time with their families or children.

I have been working at Nando's UK full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Feel part of something special, from donating chicken to local charities to all the fantastic things the company does for its people - right the way back to the chilli farmers.

Huge focus on being more than just a job for nandocas - life skills and personal development, as well as achievable progression career paths. Fantastic internal progression rate - from nandoca through to Patrao (general managers) and much more!

A fast paced but fun environment - work hard, play hard!

Your opinion matters, the managers at all levels want to create a fantastic working environment for everyone.

Well above minimum wage for all nandocas in all roles.

    Free meal every shift!

Nando's means it when they talk about their values, they are not just a motto!

    Cons

Generally evenings and weekends are busier but rotas are flexible.
