I have been working at Nando's UK full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Having progressed from cashier to Assistant Manager myself I can say anyone can progress in this company as long as they keep pushing themselves.

Amazing benefits including free food, discounts, an achievable bonus(most of it anyway) and the possibility of being sent on a conference abroad.

Currently offering a decent salary for what you do, however they need to be careful with how they deal with the next pay rises as having hourly paid staff earning more than managers is very demoralising.

    Cons

If you have a small management team it can be very challenging finding the time to do everything to keep the restaurant doing well.

Like with any restaurant job it can be stressful when you don't have enough staff due to illness or just bad forecasting. Customers will not understand this so you have to keep finding new ways to push staff to go that extra mile.

    Advice to Management

Look after your assistant managers as they are the ones in the restaurant the most.

I have been working at Nando's UK full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Free food, great development opportunities, reasonably flexible. Offer a lot of nights out etc and a perfect place to work as a 'nandoca' (basic level) whilst at uni/college

    Cons

Feel like sometimes don't have a great social life, 9-10 hour days not uncommon. Brown-nosing a great way to progress through the business, to the disappointment of other strong staff members.

I worked at Nando's UK full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

free food when working, good for when you're a student, very social with regular nights out and regional get togethers. easy progression to manager

    Cons

Expected to work a minimum of 50 hours a week as a manager (contract is officially 48 as a 2nd but this is unrealistic) Cashiers/Grillers are overworked; not only do they do their shift but if they are on a close they then clean the whole restaurant which takes a couple of hours - all on minimum wage. As a manager you are constantly trying to hit targets on labour meaning you have to send staff home which then means you are stretched in the busy periods. Have to run shifts while also doing behind the scenes tasks (marketing etc) meaning your working days average out at 10hours a shift. Rota's are poorly managed: if you wish to have a weekend off then i was expected to work 10 days in a row. Progressed from cashier to 2nd assistant manager which was easy enough but not enough support and/or time to learn how to be a good manager. Told my Patrao I wanted to move out of restaurants and into L&D and was told I needed to do at least another 2 years - very demotivating. Brilliant student job which you can use to progress to manager but options after that are limited - there aren't enough restaurants for everyone to become a Patrao.

    Advice to Management

Get cleaners in! This will ensure staff are not overworked. Look at how management teams work; many don't have time to do non shift based tasks as the shifts take up all of your time. Look at pay: I would rather have less regional nights out etc and have the money in my pocket. Review the bonus scheme - if your sales target is set too high then you will never get your sales bonus and this is so demotivating! Create further opportunites that aren't restaurant based.
