Pros
Make good friends on shift, good team events and parties with some other perks. Can be quite a fun job at times
Cons
Managers constantly think they can disrespect you, heavy workload at time and often understaffed. Stressful team with poor managers leading to poor success Poor pay with other restauraunts and other similar easier jobs offering more

Pros
Great people Family atmosphere Informal workplace Free meal for staff on shift
Cons
Long hours - Contracted hours for managers is 48hrs, so no extra pay for 55-60hr weeks which are the norm. Would have become untenable after having children. Central support roles all in London. Few opportunities therefore to move upwards outside of operations roles (GM, Regional Manager etc). Poor salary, insignificant rises without promotion. Great core values applied too heavily and mask the fact that people are sacrificing life balance, family time, weekends, opportunity to gain qualifications or skills... all for chicken and chips. Staff (cashier/grilled) wages are determined by each restaurant, managers of which are directly measured (and bonused) on their ability to keep labour costs each week to a certain percentage (used to be around 12-14% of sales depending on restaurant). Managers therefore have little motivation to implement regular pay reviews to be competetive or fair. Little guidance given on how often or by how much wages should be increased. Often young managers with no training on salary management making decisions which have a huge impact on their staff's lives. Company exploits the idea of family or loyalty to other members of management team causing managers to feel guilty about leaving on time or taking time off. I personally experienced it to be standard for managers being expected to owe a shift back to those who covered them when they had to call in sick.

Pros
tends to be a young career force so everyone gets along, job is easy once you get the hang of it
Cons
career progression even for part timers isn’t really a thing - you’ll do a lot ABOVE your pay grade and won’t get a bonus or pay rise

Pros
The pay is decent and some crew members are friendly
Cons
Not a lot of help and you are expected to do a lot even though you have just started in the job. U might have to work over your shift to close the shop and you won’t get paid for this

- 4.028 Dec 2021Back of House Team MemberFormer Employee, less than 1 yearWorcester, England
Pros
free food, nice collegues, good staff training days, most managers pretty nice, lots of other young fun people, good work community
Cons
very late finishing hours back of house on close (sometimes 3am) but no extra pay for working unsociable hours. Some managers could be difficult, not understanding of illness and will try and get you to come in even if your sick

- 3.014 Feb 2019Assistant ManagerCurrent Employee, more than 1 yearLondon, England
Pros
-Free meal on shift -Company ‘seems’ to care about your wellbeing -Salary -Wage % budget doesn’t include salaries -Paid trips abroad for regional assistants to bond -Christmas and summer parties paid for with drinks -Store day outs together all paid for to bond with team and managers
Cons
-Long hours -Rare to have 2 days off together when fulltime -Patrao (General Manager) never does PM shift and your rota has to fit around their set rota -Wage % seems great until you have to save hours to pay for staff to clean after the shift -They don’t employ cleaners, staff are expected to stay sometimes until 2am to finish, sometimes meaning you have completed a 12-14 hour day -Customer Care team will give away vouchers for complaints sometimes instead of checking with the store as to what went on and if there is something that be done to help change for the future etc

Pros
Im lucky enough to have friendly and patient managers who don't mind having a laugh. Im only 17 but get payed adult living wage (8.90) which is pretty good.
Cons
They pay older workers this which means there is not much incentive for people to stay there long terg, so they take on many new hires like me, which means there is often not the resources to make sure we are adequately trained for the job.
