    Pros

They let you work from home

    Cons

10 months, 3 project, none of which worth even including in my portfolio. All projects work in the typical rbs/natwest style: designers do a ton of work, business stakeholders push back on most of the cool stuff, then either the project is canned or something mediocre is delivered. Middle management is completely useless. It's quite shocking how some design leads and managers get promoted despite delivering nothing year after year after year. I guess it depends on the project you're on, but I was involved in 3 projects and all 3 were so badly managed. Lack of clarity, no agreement on deliverables, the design lead not giving any guidance at all, he would just say "ok, let me deal with this" and then do nothing. Maybe he was too busy in finding other ways of climbing the career ladder. Huge contrast and lack of common vision between the design team and the business stakeholders, leading to nothing getting done. That's why in one of the projects I worked in, 4 designers left in less than 2 years...that's how difficult it was to deal with the business. Everything seems to be moving from Edinburgh to London so there's barely any chance to do interesting design work if you're in Scotland

Good opportunities but lots of process killing creativity and speed. Recovering well from 2008 problems.

    Pros

Good vision from CEO, Good opportunities to move sideways, Ability to work remotely, Good access to training and talks, more exciting on the Consumer side which had better funding, compared to B2B

    Cons

Death by process meetings and business speak, 2 years and no opportunity to advance my grade, Dull processes like MOP, which everyone hated doing. Male dominated - Some open sexism witnessed

    Pros

I worked in technology in the investment bank, which is very different to the retail bank. It has a very positive working environment. For the most part, people are friendly, concerned about welfare, and genuinely care. It's also surprisingly efficient (by the standards of a large bank which isn't saying too much).

    Cons

Morale in the investment bank has been in freefall for a number of years as continuous costcutting and reduction in scope have bitten.
