    I have been working at Nationwide Building Society full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Nationwide is about more than a job. It's like being part of a family, both the people that work there and the customers. They are very supportive of work life balance and wellbeing. Good career prospects in branches and in Head Office departments

    Cons

    Not amazing pay at the start of your career, at around £17000, but they are willing to negotiate for the right person. Market leading benefits package though, so it's about more than the pounds in your pocket.

    Advice to Management

    The salary progression needs to be considered, have steps along the way to show how salary will increase.

    Nationwide fully supports a great work life balance! Tonnes of development opportunities for those that want it! Nationwide promotes employee wellbeing and encourages you to really look after yourself.

    Cons

    Entry level salary can be low, but regular reviews make it really easy to increase this quickly!!

    Keep investing in tech and branch network

    You have to work retail hours, which means weekends

    Great to work for a company that has a clear direction with the customer at the heart of it - looking to give more autonomy at a local level

    Cons

    Can be too focused on process which stifles creativity. Difficult to move across departments - unless you know someone to give you the inner view

    Pros

    Being a rare financial services company that you can feel proud to work for. Great people, fair pay and very fair treatment of staff.

    Cons

    Management structure is prone to bottlenecks in retail distribution. Regardless of the quality of work you do, you are essentially waiting for somebody to leave a position before you can move on.

    Ensure middle managers implement overall strategy of the business rather than focus on driving their own careers

    Rewarding Job benefits. Success is recognised. Nationwide lives and breathes what we stand by and it all about the people. Highly challenging but highly rewarding. We get rewarded for doing the right thing for our customers, not for the benefit of the company. career development is great. for those willing to work hard... that is. I have had 5 promotions in 5 years.

    demands of the job and stress... but its all worth it.

    Think about the tools which are needed to support making managers life even better - laptops for ALL BMs not just SBMs.
