I have been working at Nationwide Building Society for more than a year

    Pros

Good office space, fresh facilities and decor. Good co-workers with flexible working to encourage people to do their best.

    Cons

Frustratingly resistant to change or to question what the objectives are. Long term employees hold senior positions yet have little or no expertise (Mobile & Digital) Felt more like a body shop in the 1970's rather than a thriving innovation hub. OpenBanking... Lots of people sitting around pretending to look busy while management congratulate themselves on achieving great things whilst not achieving anything of substance. Wow!

I have been working at Nationwide Building Society full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Mostly amazing people who try hard to do the right thing Collaborative stakeholders who care Some flexible working

    Cons

ExCo members can be duplicitous saying one thing and doing the other Bullying covered up as ‘strong management’. No, it is bullying when you shout and swear Constant restructuring without a strategy other than cut costs Senior contractors know nothing of our values and are disruptive but are celebrated A good culture at risk of becoming toxic

I have been working at Nationwide Building Society full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great employee benefits Flexible working Career development is available at all levels

    Cons

Everyone is always 'busy' and there alot of duplication and wasted effort. Still a hierarchical culture Higher level management need to adapt and change to a more Agile way of working - this in turn will mean we can be quicker to get things done.

Former Contractor - Senior Project Manager in Swindon, Wiltshire, South West England, England

I worked at Nationwide Building Society for more than 10 years

    Pros

Mutual to the core and tries to do the right thing. Depending on the team/squad you are in you are well respected, and given access to all levels of management. Flexible working, good rates of pay and interesting stuff to do

    Cons

Place is now run by Architects who step well beyond their role to influence absolutely everything. Blows hot and cold with budgets, so one minute plenty of funds to deliver and get job done - next minute, cost cutting left right and centre. So many layers of management (despite huge attempts to remove it) and very siloed organisational structure meaning so many unnecessary delays in getting anything signed off or progressed
