I worked at Next Retail part-time

    Pros

Good people, enjoyable work, flexible online shift system and mostly positive management if you take the time to chase them.

    Cons

Wages are rubbish compared to even other retail stores. If you start when you're young, your pay pretty much stays as it is.

    Advice to Management

Assign every member of staff a more experienced mentor within their store. One very familiar face to turn to or email would be helpful.

I worked at Next Retail full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Had a very mixed time at Next. I’ll look back at it with fond memories but I will never ever work for them again.
Also Mr CEO doesn’t think his staff DESERVE the living wage but gives himself a massive bonus.
    - as long as you try you’ll be given plenty of opportunities.
    - lovely staff
    - excellent discount
    - can keep all uniform

    Cons

    - managers don’t care
    - looonnnnnng hours
    - no benefit to working Boxing Day
    - if you don’t work during sale you’re literally fired (it’s in your contract)

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your staff

I worked at Next Retail full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

25% staff discount, on site staff shop.

    Cons

Not treated fairly, no sense of being a team. Timed toilet breaks, unachievable targets, a lot of pressure, no support.

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff with some compassion....go on and on about treating customers fairly, maybe try treating the staff fairly!

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Next Retail part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Next was great for flexibility - it has an online system where you can pick up and get rid of shifts fairly easily. I would fully recommend it as a place to work while studying.

    Cons

Morale could be quite low, particularly amongst full-time members of staff due to limited opportunities for career progression - not an issue if you are just using the job to supplement income during studying, but not an ideal place to work long term.

    Advice to Management

Retain staff by recognising hard work, especially during busy sale periods. Offer larger contracts to people who want to work there full time.
