I worked at Norfolk County Council part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pension, fair salary with annual increments & good training opportunities

    Cons

Frequent mistakes to contracts & wages. Not enough support offered to those suffering Ill health derived from work.
Senior leaders are not made accountable for low staff morale and resignations.

    Advice to Management

Happy, supported staff are far more productive and willing to.go that extra mile.

Everyone is so overstretched that getting a reply to emails requires chasing multiple times

I worked at Norfolk County Council part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

None at all apart from the fact that you can always resign and find something much better!

    Cons

I worked my butt off for Norfolk County Council in their education department as a teacher. I was treated dreadfully! I can not stress enough how poor the whole organisation is. They state that they have a dedicated help line for all staff working for NCC, and take note because you will need it!

I was contracted to work 20 hours per week, but was put under so much pressure that I was always working 40+ every week. I was eventually signed off work due to stress and was then abandoned! No contact from my manager, no help, no well wishes and 'hope you ge better soon'. I was replaced within hours of my sick leave and never went back. It was made very clear that I was not valued. My replacement was offered a full time contract (obviously because it was a full time job!) and I never even got a leaving card! Total bunch of awful, threatening, lying people. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better, your staff are you biggest asset

I worked at Norfolk County Council part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really enjoyable working atmosphere, fellow staff were respectful and very helpful during my period of learning. Thanks to their help I settled in very quickly and soon became confident in the work.

    Cons

There were some opportunities to attend workshops and the possibility of gaining further qualifications but I felt these were maybe not too well advertised.

    Pros

At least if yo live here you're near the coast and can get to the coast to relax.

    Cons

With the area being so large there is no secondary LAs pushing conditions, it really is the death of ambition. You'll also find that everybody is actually related to everybody else, the last bastion of nepotism in the country, Norfolk CC

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Norfolk County Council full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Large organisation, modernising buildings and tech, values "can do attitude", has some real trail blazing teams in parts of the organisation

    Cons

Has lots of veneer that looks good on the surface but underneath its inefficient, often ineffective and middle management block is rife. Challenge is seen as being disruptive and not being a team player and internal political division between silos is disfunctional

    Advice to Management

Focus on what you're really there to do, accept challenge and different ideas as part of an innovative organisation, avoid hiring "mini-me" at every level
