I have been working at Novartis full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are great. If you are in the right location, opportunities exist. State of the art manufacturing for most parts of the world.

    Cons

Trying to change the organization for the future will push a lot of jobs overseas. The bureaucracy can make getting things done in a timely fashion frustrating, if not almost impossible.

    Advice to Management

Cut the paperwork. More bureaucracy does not increase the quality or help the patient.

I worked at Novartis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company well oriented to performance with the appropriate Values and Behaviors. Well structured and organized, with clear, global and standard processes.

    Cons

As other multinationals, latest direction is toward Global Business Service unit, which is taking Globalization to the "extreme" side. Shared Services are less expensives (or not) but partnering with the Business is more difficult.

    Advice to Management

As in the past, keep an eye to the right balance between Global processes and Market/Country requirements. Combine cost control with flexibility and effectiveness.

I have been working at Novartis as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I've been doing contract work with Novartis for over 5 years now in Switzerland and U.S.
Great teams to work with, very international atmosphere, and if they are happy with your work they will continue to move you forward with new projects and opportunities.

    Cons

A lot of the external work is moving to Prague so the jobs are getting limited currently in Switzerland and U.S.

    Advice to Management

Nothing much to add here, things are pretty clear and straight forward.

I have been working at Novartis full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Flexible work timings. No micromanagement. Wonderful for young parents who may need to work from home for extended periods
     - Global environment - senior roles are executed from Hyderabad
     - Not much timeline pressure, caring management
     - Good remuneration and benefits, excellent caring attitude towards employees

    Cons

    - If you are looking for a charged up fast-paced work environment, then this place may disappoint you
     - Not good if you are early in your career, the relaxed work environment with no pressure can kill motivation to learn more and keep up with the market

    Advice to Management

    - Create learning opportunities for associates and bring some zip to the work culture, far too lax for now

    Pros

Great place to work and learn as a professional. Lot of opportunities offered in a wide international environment. Good values and mission. Very competitive salaries are offered.

    Cons

It is becoming a "business first" company. Bureaucracy and never-ending proceses. Very political environment. Hard to progress in the company

    Advice to Management

Reduce bureaucracy and empower the associates. Establish more clear career paths
