I worked at Novartis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good company to work and very flexible work options. Very good pay also

    Cons

no growth and lot of internal politics

    Advice to Management

Kindly review your management teams performance regularly rather than listening to them. Mostly they dont work and they just time pass

I have been working at Novartis full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to move upwards if you're prepared to keep your mouth shut.

    Cons

Too much bureaucracy; no trust; employees treated like children. Don't open your mouth or you will have your life made miserable.

    Advice to Management

If you want a speak up culture, you need to get your middle management in line.

I worked at Novartis full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great culture. Flat structure. Dynamic, motivated peers.

    Cons

Lack efficient processes. Some departments work in silo. Lack global connectivity. Risk averse. Lots of change.

    I worked at Novartis full-time

    Pros

Strong personal development, good salary, very ethical

    Cons

Bonus scheme is poor and not competitive now it has changed in 2016, Franchise Heads in general are in it for themselves not their people, 2 drink rule at company meetings strictly enforced!

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a review of the new bonus scheme to make sure the same potential to earn exists across all franchises, it will only be competitive externally if working on launch brands

    Pros

Flexible hours although you are expected to work 7,5 hours per day. Gym, hairdresser etc on site is also very positive.

    Cons

Some of the schemes have lacked some clarity and direction. However, this is expected to get better within the near future.

    Advice to Management

Advise to management would be to cater to the issues of clarity described in the cons. Coming into a new company without a clear role, there is only so much you can do just on your own.

I have been working at Novartis part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great people
    Sense of community
    Internal expertise

    Cons

Limited career development for non-medics in scientific roles (outside Basel HQ)
Not that "family friendly" (e.g. maternity leave/pay policy, part-time/flexible working)

    Advice to Management

    Revisit HR policies

I have been working at Novartis full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Making a difference to the lives of patients through innovation and passion in certain areas.

    Cons

The company is going through a 'low period' - something of a dip - which seems to happen in a cycle here (having seen it through 8 or so years). Motivation is low, despite the arrival of an inspirational new GM in the spring of 2015. The current leadership team appears to be a group who are using Pharma UK as a stepping stone to bigger and better things - with more interest in politics and power-struggles than making a difference. This is disappointing for those of us who are still very passionate and committed to this company.

    Advice to Management

Try to move away from UK Pharma leadership roles being nothing more than a stepping stone to Basel. Whilst, culturally, the focus on values and behaviours is the right one (as are those chosen) there are certain members of the LT who are very well known for their failure to lead by example. That they are not held to account makes the LT lack credibility - a great shame when there is an inspirational GM and a couple of LT members who are second to none.
I would not recommend NVS to a friend at this moment in time.
