I have been working at OC&C Strategy Consultants full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Generally speaking, projects are very interesting and intellectually challenging Colleagues are all extremely smart, fun and kind people Great feedback system allows for rapid development Great exit opportunities once you reach Senior Associate level and above Perks such as company away weekend, international training week and other social activities are great too Renewed focus on employee happiness is starting to bear fruit. Hours have generally gone down and there is a push to improve the staffing mechanism Recently, recruitment has been focusing heavily on diversity and attracting a broader range of applicants

    Cons

Average hours for junior staff are c.55 hours per week. This isn't too bad however it can be very unpredictable Pension contribution is at the minimum amount Non-consulting aspects such as expenses system could be improved as they are currently outdated Despite efforts to push diversity, there is still a lack of diversity at more senior levels in the firm

I have been working at OC&C Strategy Consultants full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great people - hard working and supportive team players Exposure to a variety of projects - sectors, roles etc Non-hierarchical structure/ culture - junior team members are encouraged to speak up even in senior team meetings

    Cons

Long hours. The firm is trying to improve work-life balance/ flexible working options etc, but in this industry there is a limit to how much you can do

I worked at OC&C Strategy Consultants full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent foundations for learning how businesses really work. Solving interesting problems with highly intelligent, driven, down to earth people. Great salary (highly competitive). Basically no Mon-Thu travel / client side work which is a huge pro. Fun culture with company sponsored international holidays / training events. Partners get very involved in projects as experts helping to define the client answer. Diversity initiatives (LGBT, Women's network, Ethnic & Cultural) starting to get real traction within the business and impacting senior leadership decisions, with commitments to improve gender balance in the Partnership. Leaving to join a startup in a high impact role.

    Cons

Highly variable hours project to project. "Average week" is 55h, but really ranges from 45h which is totally sustainable, or 65h+ which starts to get really tough if you do a few in a row. Network and brand less developed than major competitors. Fairly outdated back office systems for expenses, holiday booking and project staffing, which are boring to have to use.

I worked at OC&C Strategy Consultants full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Project and work-social wise - everything is great. Generally really interesting projects with very clever people who just ‘get it’, and lots of responsibility very early on, although little client exposure. OC&C is well known in most of its sectors, and a lot of the work done is of an amazing standard - there is so much thought put into it. Social events are organised and include weekends away, as well as smaller events that individuals can suggest and push forward, like trips to current art exhibitions, ice skating etc. Recruitment is very well organised and invested into.

    Cons

Non-consulting aspects of the job are frustrating and difficult - hours are long, which is less of a problem when you’re solving an interesting problem, but starts to be an issue when you're doing hours of expenses on an outdated system. Things like pensions are set at the bare minimum, as senior people seem to think that no-one cares, and they can therefore ignore the issue. Various initiatives at encouraging staff engagement and diversity are picked up and then forgotten about / hidden - things like pension benchmarking, work phones for junior staff (who are expected to be contactable whenever), firm-wide Q&As, and gender diversity targets.

    Pros

The people are absolutely top tier - really smart, genuinely nice, ready to help and give you enough time and space when you need it. The company has been growing rapidly in London and around the world (there are good internal opportunities to move to other offices in Europe and US) and is doing well commercially. The project mix is possibly the best among all the firms in London. Most of the projects are corporate strategies, there are no boring operations or implementations projects. As a consequence the projects are much shorter (4-6 weeks) than at other consulting firms so you get to work on more projects, covering more industries and working with new people all the time. Salary is great, I believe BCG is the only firm that pays more at the junior level in London at the moment.

    Cons

Nothing to complain about. Long hours are an industry standard.

I have been working at OC&C Strategy Consultants full-time

    Pros

Great place to quickly develop the "consultant toolkit" - with typically short non-implementation type work.

    Cons

Virtually no client facing work, very high private equity due diligence mix. No concept of project management, resulting in extremely long hours.
