    Approves of CEO

I have been working at OMERS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - CEO has been trying to do the right thing about aligning the different divisions; changing the culture and making it a more fun and innovative place to work

    Cons

    - very political like many places and work environment depends on your manager and senior leader in the division

    Advice to Management

    - ensure senior management is not playing favorites and values employees of all ages - not just the young ones

I worked at OMERS full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits, decent pay (depending on your manager AND when you got hired), good DB benefit, ability to work from home (depending on your division)

    Cons

    - Used to be a great company to work for, every since the new CEO took over, everything went downhill slowly but surely - Slowly shaved off the paid time off/ omers days - Reducing benefit package - Changing culture to focus just on outside appearance and no substance - Ability for upper management to brush off failures in implementing new pension system and sugar coat it as setting up a 'foundation' for the future (what a joke) - Upper management / C suite is all talk and not accountable for their wrong doings. Their work ethics are questionable at best. - Excellent learning grounds for true professionals (workers who actually wanted to do things right and work hard) on what not to do - So called Directors/ VPs/ SVPs who are not 'leaders' but 'talkers only'. Initiated projects that have no substance - Look at the org charts, and you will see there are so many VPs and Directors with no subordinates. Good way to earn retirement dough from the poor pensioners who contributed - Nepotism at its best - Ideal place for some potential/current employees who wanted to hide his/her lack of working knowledge by joining events/committees that are initiated by the VP/ SVP. You're immune to bad performance reviews/ layoffs once you join the club. Just play politics and do minimum work (or just pretend that you know), you'll be fine - do this at your own risk and only if your conscience allows you to do so. There are some people (including Directors) who failed so many times, yet the person is still there -> Great real life example of just talking and do not admit mistakes, and you'll be rewarded greatly!

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good job and hire more SVPs, VPs, and Director levels! They are your best asset! The rest is just workers that you don't care (but acted like you care). Every organization has a DNA, and OMERS' DNA had become very rotten, focusing only on the outside/ image, but inside, it has no substance. All in all, Management is doing a disservice to OMERS members.

I have been working at OMERS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Has a great history of focus on the pension promise and its dedication to service excellence, compensation and benefits, teamwork, trust and integrity.

    Cons

The future does not look so good, for pensioners, members and especially for employees. The senior leadership has left its employees confused as to what the core values are, since they don't demonstrate them. I can't say that the organization is going in the right direction, with ridiculous spending and HR practices. Failed projects get tucked under the rug and those responsible get a pat on the shoulder.

    Advice to Management

Outsource your pension administration to an organization that knows what their service industry is, continue to focus on your investment strategy and re-alignment.

I have been working at OMERS full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Good employee benefits, nice office

    Cons

Excessive bureaucratic politics to deal with on a daily basis. Hard work does not always get appreciated with overly demanding boss. As a junior one would have to work on weekends and stand by your phone for most of the days.

I worked at OMERS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Good benefits in particular holidays.

    Cons

The “Peter Principle” in full effect. Good talent in the Director roles and below. Horrible senior leadership team, especially the Investment team leadership. Ego’s and politics are in huge play masking massive insecurity and incompetent investment skills. They treat junior staff with complete disrespect. Its a real shame given the importance of a pension fund to its pensioners.

    Advice to Management

Advice is really to the board to shake up management with new and inspired leadership from the top down.
