      The best company I've ever worked for.

      Pros

      I started with Octopus in 2018 after doing DevOps freelancing for a while. I've been a fan for a long time and when they gave me a call I was very excited. The past 3 and almost a half years have been some of the most rewarding of my career. I've done the best work of my career here as I've been treated like an adult, given the time and space to excel and I've done all this while getting married and having our first child. I was allowed 2 months off to go and learn to be a father. Octopus has allowed me to grow in a ways that surprised me and I really do enjoy going to work every day. The work life balance at Octopus truly is fantastic. I never feel any pressure to do more than I can fairly. You can see our public handbook on handbook.octopus.com.

      Honestly, there are none that I can think of.

      It's not "the same everywhere"

      Pros

      From the very top of the organization the culture is open and high-trust. This is where you come to grow, be challenged, and do your best work. The culture is nurtured by the leadership team and the people team are on board with it, so there are no inconsistencies. The public handbook is exactly how things work here. When you tell people what kind of company you want to work for, they say "it's the same everywhere". Turns out they're wrong.

      Cons

      I'm regularly nudged towards the edge of my comfort zone, so this isn't somewhere to come to cruise along. It's an opportunity to find out what you can do.

      * Flexible, remote working * Employee-first policies and decisions * Treats everyone like an adult, high-trust environment * Strong focus on internal culture * Great compensation packages and regular salary benchmarking * Generous home office and laptop allowances

      Cons

      The company is currently shifting from "small business" to "enterprise" in terms of size and organisation. This comes with a constant fear of "becoming corporate." It's all good so far, though.
