I have been working at Oliver James Associates full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have been at OJ for almost six months now and can't fault my experience so far! The culture is positive, fun and hard-working, with promotions awarded literally every week. There's a big social element to the job too, and the perks really reflect this (free drinks every Friday, regular events, team nights out etc) so if you're not one for being part of the action, this probably isn't the place for you!
Apart from the social side of things, it's obvious your development is important to OJ. I feel supported in everything I want to achieve both at the company and in the future. It's as though even my prospects beyond OJ are important - a very smart way to retain staff, if you ask me.

    Cons

Promotional opportunities could be more transparent for those outside of sales.

Flexible working could be offered more widely.

    Advice to Management

As you grow, keep up the progressive and supportive culture you have created. This is your USP.

I have been working at Oliver James Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work life balance for operational staff is great
Stakeholders and senior management are very involved and are easily approachable /accessible.
    Good bonus structure
    Recognise and reward hard work
Company parties are the best I have ever experienced
Personal touches like birthday, Easter and xmas presents are a nice treat

The main pro about OJA is that they like to reward their own, they recognise hard work and skill and allow operational staff to grow and develop which is rare for a sales company. Promoting people for their strengths and allowing their career to develop is why I feel so many of the operational function stick around. People in operations just don't leave here.

    Cons

Listen to staff more when making decisions that effect them. Big project work should be decided with managers/teams not in an boardroom with just directors. The people doing the do need to be involved more to enable them to understand why its happening and to encourage their teams to believe in what we are rolling out.

I have been working at Oliver James Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

An organisation that thoroughly invests into their staff - on a personal and a professional level. Culture is corporate and competitve but in a very positive way, driving consultants outside of their comfort zones and ultimately making the most out people. Which obviously means more money... Company events are arguably OJ's biggest selling point, with Christmas and Summer parties at the envy of all of my friends and ex-colleagues + further corporate days throughout the year. Furthering the social aspect, Free Drink Fridays, EVERY Friday, are a great way to unwind and socialise with colleagues outside of the office environment.

    Cons

The only negative that springs to mind is long hours - but that's recruitment. It's no worse than competitors on this front and working hours are very clear and transparent. There is no "face time" expectation outside of those hours which you will likely expereicne in other organisations

    Advice to Management

Carry on with what you are doing..

I have been working at Oliver James Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Very strong relationships within Insurance & wider Financial Services
    - Excellent working culture with many company-wide events
    - Progression is achievable and clearly set out at each step
    - High intensity

    Cons

    - Lack of flexibility when it comes to hours. Long hours are a given in recruitment, however being able to choose when you work extra hours would be more beneficial.
    - Can be overly process driven, however this is also a positive as it is reflected in the higher billers. However newcomers will need to adapt to this quickly.
    - Senior/Managing consultants should be given more autonomy on their desks (call times, KPI's, etc)

    Advice to Management

Talk to staff more regularly and ask them what issues they might have on a monthly basis. Each team will come up against different issues.

I have been working at Oliver James Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have felt my time at Oliver James is only at it's infancy, after being with Oliver James for around 8 months, I have felt the levels of training and support have been impeccable. OJ genuinely care about employee growth and development which is supported by high performing teams and impressive training.

    Cons

There aren't many cons to working at Oliver James, I feel their could be more flexibility to work hours, however it is nature of recruitment that you work longer hours.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!
