"Great place to thrive - good employee value proposition"

    5.0
    Former Employee - Manager

I worked at Oliver Wyman full-time

    Pros

All the usual pros from consulting: Smart people, fast-paced, steep learning curve, broad diversity of projects including very high-end strategy assignments. Feels culture is more flexible and agile than in MBBs

    Cons

Management could do more to retain talent and reduce employee turnover. Commitment on work life balance improvement is genuine but delivering limited results. Disparity of salary depending on locations - very competitive in some places, less in other

I have been working at Oliver Wyman full-time for more than a year

    Pros

+ Sharp and down to earth colleagues who stick up for each other + Fast career progression if you demonstrate competence and willingness to step up to challenges, and support with development if you need more time + Non-hierarchical, partners are accessible even when busy + Emphasis on sensible work-life balance (in UK based projects) + Global staffing model means it isn't too difficult to secure a project in South Africa or Australia from London office + Recent strategy refresh has modernised OW

    Cons

    - Culture does not emphasize securing incredible exit opportunities for those who leave, though partners are generally supportive and will help you if they can - Pay does not progress as fast as MBB when you climb the ranks - Diversity (gender, sexuality, race) sub-par, though there is lots of work underway to improve that - Cultural heterogeneity between European projects when it comes to WLB (London managers are generally less intense than French / German ones)

I worked at Oliver Wyman full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Working on interesting projects with a fantastic group of people. High impact work. Opportunity to rapidly build skill set, highly valuable in future work.

    Cons

Unpredictable and long hours. Poor (although improving) culture around work life balance. As junior team member can have limited control over type of projects you are able to work on.
