      Pros

      Met some friends for life

      Cons

Inexperienced & insecure management leads to petty behaviours & major micro management. 4 people resigned due to one particular manager. Minimum holidays. 40 hour working week. Half hour lunch only. Clock in/clock out. Hire & fire attitude. Antiquated in the views of running the entire business. Lacks inclusivity - won’t employ anyone with visible tattoos, dyed/quirky hair, visible/unusual piercings. Casual racism - if applicants don’t have a traditional “British” name, you will be asked how good their spoken English is. Salary is below market average. Clinical staff assisting with eye surgery are paid minimum wage (terrifying)

      Pros

Lots of scope for learning new skills and being involved in different departments.

      Cons

No inflation wage increase unless you are on minimum wage, even if you are promoted/change role or take on more skills.

      * Minimum wage * Team Managers who bully not coach * Not allowed to have air con switched on * No blinds on windows * No development Opportunities * Can be sacked at any time if your face doesn't fit. * Bonus is what makes up your min wage salary and they take some off you if you dare to be sick * Staff are not empowered to do their jobs * Processes are poor and stores don't answer their phones.

      Awful company to work for!

      Pros

There aren’t any. The ‘good’ reviews on here are a complete lie. I am treated like dirt by management every single day.

      Cons

Everything. The wages are awful (minimum wage), the holidays are a joke, half an hour lunch for a 9-5:30 shift, management are not trained to do the job properly, the bullying culture, constant threats to your job, the bonus scheme is made up as they go along. My mental health was fine before I started working for this company, now I need medication to get me through the day here. It has seriously affected everything, from my demeanour, to my home life. The ‘good’ reviews on here are all left by ‘managers’ (funny that), and they are a lie. We received an email asking us to go onto Glassdoor and rate Optical Express as a good employer, and anyone caught doing otherwise would be subject to a disciplinary. I still have the email. I’m sorry, but when are you above a certain thing called ‘freedom of speech’? If you need to threaten employees into leaving good reviews, then they aren’t really true, are they?

Laughable positive reviews have been dictated by CEO

      Pros

      None. Really... there are none.

      Cons

CEO directs employees to write positive reviews on here to counteract any negative ones... just look back at the history and date pattern of positive posts v negative posts. Cue at least half dozen positive reviews after this one. Make no mistake, he is obsessed with fabricating his online reputation. The company is purely a public ego project for this paranoid self-obsessed CEO, it's certainly does not have the interests of it's customers at heart, or a viable business plan. Reality of being employed here: - minimum wage, no pay review - in fact, no review or appraisal of any kind; - minimum holiday entitlement; - archaic clock in/out card system - woe betide you if you are even a minute late; - timed and capped toilet breaks for call centre staff; - 30 minute lunch breaks; - zero notice sackings, at the whim of the micro manager CEO; - management by bullying; - zero career opportunities, unless you just want to follow every despicable order by the CEO or his senior manager sheep; and - zero development opportunities. Don't take online reviews word for it... ask any recruitment agency.

      Pros

People. But that is an attribute of any job I've been in and is no way derived from this atrocious company.

      Cons

Minute micro management from an unethical CEO down. Managed by threats and bullying. A punitive environment. Consequences of not towing the line are typically an on-the-spot sacking, even if it's Christmas Eve. Optical Express breeds motivation by fear. And the billy-no-mates CEO thrives on it. Bosses can’t be questioned, leaders can’t be challenged and employees must submit to whatever they’re told. Zero development opportunities... unless you are a nodding sheep. Bare legal employee entitlement as suggested by the government. Minimum wage, 9-5.30 with half hour lunch and minimal holiday entitlement. You will be disciplined if you are even a minute late or clock out for too many toilet breaks. Even if you regularly work additional hours. Zero supplier relationships. Invoices not paid. No thought to customer care.

      Pros

Apart from the people at store level there are no pros

      Cons

Minimum wage, expected to work extra hours for monthly stocktake, go to meetings etc outside of working hours pressurised for hard selling of spectacles, coatings and premium lenses to Oap's, kids etc and given unachievable targets
