    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Oxford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you have a good supervisor, this is an amazing job. Great freedom to pursue your own ideas, the excitement of other people's great ideas, great flexibility and plenty of holiday, more than you'll get in any other job.

    Cons

You don't earn a lot as a PhD student. You know you could probably have earned more doing any other job. Also, if you have a bad supervisor, it can be hell.

    Advice to Management

Hire nice people who care about their students lives, not just their output. That's better for everyone and better for research output in the long-run.

    Pros

Great knowledge and education. Constantly new things. Lots of good people and good social life.

    Cons

Not enough travel. Not always good paid for its status.

I have been working at Oxford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Freedom, flexible hours, realistic time frames.
Probably the most secure job going.

    Cons

A huge number of processes and red tape to get your head around!

I worked at Oxford University full-time

    Pros

You must be joking. Worst place to work in academia. No intellectual debate at all. Senior academics technocratic and robotic in approach. Follow the rukles and don't question authority. Rather like a Russian Gulag. Physios and rheumatologists rule. Everyone else has to shut up and put up.

    Cons

People treated like machines, no respect, no autonomy, no control over your own work. Social scientists treated like 4th class citizens.
Have to do what you're told or else. Difficult to resist authority if you have a family and mortgage.
Staff morale rock bottom. Must say something about the senior management. Avoid like the plague if you're a social scientist.

    Advice to Management

Complete clear out of senior management urgently needed.

I have been working at Oxford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary isn't bad, but is highly dependent on the post that you hold.
    Line Manager is really good.
Work can by highly challenging and diverse.
You can interact with a lot of colleagues with very different professional backgrounds.

    Cons

Organization is too large to be effective or to feel like it cares about its employees. Top management feels too distant and not really interested in the department. Poor avenues for real life changing career progression
    Stressful work.
