I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Energetic and helpful colleagues, a company culture that allow you to grow and choose the direction you want to go. It set itself apart from other consulting companies by bringing ingenuity to life with actual prototype and innovation being made within the firm.

    Cons

I am new to PA, the first few weeks can be intimidating, as direction isn't clear, but be proactive and this can be a tremendous opportunity to do what you want to do.

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

So many bright intelligent people to work with and learn from. The remit to take control of your own career, shape it and develop where you want to.

    Cons

To many agendas and disincentives which prohibit doing the right thing CEO doesn't communicate, shows a lack of leadership and too many fundamental decisions about direction and structure of the company taken on a whim and often very badly.

    Advice to Management

Read the Leadership How To Guide. Might learn a bit about engaging your people and you'll be surprised how the results you are after might follow.

I worked at PA Consulting Group full-time

    Pros

    - With half the office unutilised, you will have plenty of time to spend looking for another job. - Great if you enjoy working on Public Sector projects, because seemingly that's the only organisation foolish enough to give PA business. - Coffee machine

    Cons

    - A horrendous place to work. The culture is toxic - bullying is rife and management turns a blind eye to it. - The local Belfast management team suffers from severe nepotism and unashamedly exerts favourtism. Your only way to get onto a project is if you're one of the current favourites (and good luck staying there). - Agile is just a sales buzzword rather than an actual way of working for the development teams.... - Management has absolutely no trust in their staff so you will be micro-managed to within an inch of your life. - PA has hired some great engineers in Belfast but with the vast majority of them leaving/left and with seniors reluctant to come near PA, things don't look good at all.

    Advice to Management

Ask yourself why the Belfast office is performing so badly? Why are they not winning work? Why are the engineers dropping like flies? Why can't they bring in senior staff?

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at PA Consulting Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Some good people in the companies that have been purchased. Government contacts keep some people safe in their jobs.

    Cons

Terrible work life balance. Terrible attitude to work. Horrible treatment of staff. No managerial support / interest in employees. Everyone out for themselves. People with limited to no expertise put on jobs they have no ability to do. Career progression is through nepotism only. Company values are a facade.

    Advice to Management

Your culture is your people and you need to treat them with respect and dignity not disregard and disdain. Consider deeply the company values and change the way things are to work around them as the core.

I worked at PA Consulting Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Interesting roles with a variety of clients in different industries - Good salary

    Cons

    - Attrition is huge so they have to recruit a lot, which as a result means many bad or skill-less colleagues - Worst culture I've seen in almost 20 years in the industry - Expenses will be rejected a lot more than you'd expect (which would be none when you claim fair and based on the policy) - Some partners will talk their own team down in front of client so they (attempt to) look good themselves - Bullying and... intimidation is common, and can be protected and carried by some partners as well

    Pros

Interesting work in the public sector

    Cons

Ethos is changing from ‘family/team’ feel to ‘sell, sell, sell’... lots of people trying to ride the crest of the wave to the top... work life balance deteriorating

    Advice to Management

Listen to your more junior employees or you won’t have anyone to do the work
