    Pros

A very collaborative company with a "high energy low ego" ethos. Has a great open-plan office and quite a flat structure. Development is available for staff. Carlyle investment has been quite positive too, adding an extra sales-focus to the mix. Good opportunities to work from home - employees are trusted to get the job done.

    Cons

Whilst there has been some work on improving Diversity and Inclusion, more needs to be done - there needs to be more emphasis on it.

    Advice to Management

Continue to build on some of the good D&I work that others are doing within the firm. Emphasise it's importance and encourage participation.

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large (10-25%) pay rises reward upward movement

Offices in many major cities across the world

Wide range of work gives plenty of opportunity for lateral career movement

Sabbaticals offered every few years where you can work elsewhere and remember the horrors of industry to prevent consulting burnout

Obvious effort directed to internal communications

Newer offices (e.g. London) are quite nice

Health and safety in the Melbourn site is gradually improving after a very worrying period caused by an inappropriate head of health and safety

    Cons

Poor annual pay rises (inflation only)

Mixed staff quality from uncertain recruitment

Older offices (e.g. Cambridge) are grim

A reluctance to acknowledge the existence of internal sales roles that can lead to staff being pulled in multiple directions unnecessarily

No culture of innovation. This is somewhat ironic given that PA claims to do three things: (consulting, technology and innovation)

Dated internal systems. E.g. timesheets and job statistics are generated by hand by a department rather than by software which is inefficient and ineffective

No internal reviews resulting in occasional very poor quality output being delivered to clients

Annual staff review process is incredibly heavy handed and labour intensive for no obvious benefit

One size fits all expenses policy only works for staff who are body shopped. Short periods of international travel routinely leave staff significantly out of pocket

Quality systems are poorly understood intrrnally and not enforced. This raises questions about how the company maintains ISO 9001 or 13485

    Advice to Management

It's silly not to let Innovation and People and Talent perform some internal work to deal with the myriad but very easily fixable problems

    Have some vision!

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to progress quickly up the ranks, huge variety of assignments, decent expenses policy, IT pretty good, new offices impressive

    Cons

Requirement to undertake corporate overhead work in own time if you want to progress, undisclosed pay bands so unclear where you rank against peers, siloed approach to business development, constant reframing of internal teams.

    Advice to Management

Implement stable internal teams, publish pay bands, provide corporate code to 'charge' internal work.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    Local
Good people (although fewer since redundancy)
Private healthcare scheme and dental scheme
Open plan offices in easily accessible village
    Lifts
    Fantastic company doctor

    Cons

    Lack of progression
    Lack of leadership
No flexibility or support from line manager
    Poor maternity offering
Lack of on site facilities. Supply own tea bags etc! No plastic cups even to drink from.
Cut costs at every opportunity without care for staff.
Lack of trust, in office politics.
Appraisal system isn’t tangible and feels pointless
    Expensive canteen
Stuffy office - either to hot or to cold. No fresh air

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff. Appreciation goes along way.
    Trust!
    Train your managers

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Flexible working and working from home
    - Good pay and bonus
-Interesting clients with international work if you are interested in travelling

    Cons

    - This business cares only about sales; the people are irrelevant and uncared for. Top talent is always leaving for this reason.
    - Promotions are based solely on utilisation score (all the way up to senior manager / managing consultant level!). Client feedback and glowing reviews are irrelevant.
    - Management really don’t know what they’re doing.
    - Maternity leave pay is rubbish in comparison to other companies (3 months full pay only)
    - Leaders are not empowered
    - Diversity and inclusion is a tick box activity rather than something that leaders truly care about
    - Uninspiring leaders
    - Nothing new to say in terms of thought leadership and always behind in the marketplace.

    Advice to Management

Invest in leadership development and in more inspiring leaders who provide direction and vision

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Extensive internal training programmes, big budgets, opportunity to progress. Relaxed working environment and flexible approach are great. Good salaries compared to smaller consultancies.

    Cons

Fractured projects, odd approach to resourcing, and a general suspicion of the corporate direction amongst the staff. General lack of direction and most tasks are motivated solely by profit.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with the staff, the consulting BS from management is very rarely genuine and people see through it immediately. It simply erodes confidence in the company. Being up front and plain speaking would speak volumes.
